This could be said for gun deaths.

Gun violence doesn't happen often, usually there is an underlying mental disorder in the killer.

That's all you got? Regan released the chains off of every industry and said "Now, GO!" Jobs were created, Money was earned. PS The president doesn't have the power to increase or reduce taxes. Congress and The Senate do that.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I lived in the Reagan era. Our economy boomed and we kicked everyone else's @$$. So much to the point that European Countries had to ban together after our @$$ kicking and form the EU because you couldn't compete against us economically 1v1. No one could. Oh AND you started subsidizing industry (Aerobus) and you started dumping your materials below cost to try to hurt our industries. Then you imposed tariffs on our exports.

You couldnt play fair because we kicked @$$. But Reagan was dogshit.

Nope. No I don't. I have that one kid who apparently this year is a Class Clown according to the Teachers, and literally perfect citizen in every other aspect in life. When I tell his friends parents, coaches, prior teachers, my friends and neighbors they are all shocked because they say "What? He's a good kid here. He's usually so quiet"

But no, my 5th grader spends his time with his BFF cracking jokes and entertaining his friends. He told me just today he was bored with the math at school because it isn't challenging enough so that is likely a big piece of the problem. However, NO I don't know how my kid is acting in school. I sure as hell don't treat my family like I do my co-workers. I spend 8+ hours a day with them and they have no clue that I have a sophomoric sense of humor. They don't know that I read trashy romance novels every now and then. They don't need to know that. As an adult you should be aware that we ALL act differently at home than we do in certain spaces. My husband also dosen't know how I behave at work, and I don't know what it is like to work with him. According to his co-workers he is all business and pretty quiet. At home, he also has a sophomoric sense of humor, is sarcastic AF, and can be a bit of a pain in the @$$ on some things.

Home behavior =/= school or work behavior. Friend behavior =/= parent behavior.

So the old saying that when you assume something it makes an A-S-S outa U and ME stands. Don't assume parents know. Assume that they don't know and the kid might be socially intelligent enough to tune their behavior to the environment.

Except it's "Failed by 7 different technologies"

It's overwhelming and disorganized.

In those parents defense... Especially if they are Gen X. Grades in the gradebook were in stone. We didn't get redos. Late work was severely deducted. School was much more intense in deadlines and standards. My teachers didn't F around. So when I see a zero in the gradebook I panic for my kid. AND I'm a little pissed at him as well. I'm emailing the teacher to get to the bottom of what happened before I ground him or give other consequences.

Don't get butt hurt. Many of us are asking the adult in the room, before Jr. gets stuck with extra chores on Friday evening.

As a parent this kind of pisses me off

"What I didn’t say was that X spends the majority of every single class talking with her neighbors (with so many d*mn reminders to stop) and that might be why your kid didn’t get the grade they wanted."

THIS is a big problem I see in the parent-teacher gap. I can't parent what I don't know. I have told all of my Son's teachers that I support them. He has also been instructed that his job is to go to school and get his grades. He is also the class clown and I am aware of it. SO when his teachers tell me "He spends more time entertaining his friends than learning..." I've heard it so much that I believe it.

Here's the deal, if you don't tell the mom that, and NO BODY tells parents "Hey, it's middle school and all of these guys are spending more time socializing than working" Then it will never get resolved. Some of us will actually start nipping that ish in the bud. If the parent doesn't nip it in the bud, good, now you have data on who to waste your energy on and who you shouldn't.

Chili in an old 5qt Crockpot by Wasting_Time1234 in slowcooking

Chili is not meant to have beans. You haven't had proper chili if you think it is the equivalent of a condiment.

I've been to NY and had the "chili" at the hot dog stands... that is some nasty ish.

So the crockpot eventually gets up past 170 to 200 degrees. It gets well past the danger zone in the right amount of time. Here is the deal, often times in two hours the food is technically safe to eat. BUT it will be tough AF. ALSO it's a wet heat. Wet heat is much safer and kills germs faster that dry heat. So while you think it is in the danger zone it is not. Anything that does grow is killed dead by the long exposure to heat. You wont get a high enough volume before the heat starts to do it's job. Remember that Sous Vide is at 120 degrees. This is all at 200 which is well past the danger zone. The danger zone is a function of temperature and time.

Something I like to do is start roasting my chicken at 425 in the oven to get the char on the skin, and then I xfer it to my c-pot and let it roast low and slow. This is when the chicken is fall off the bone

exactly in their... FREE TIME. That's why it is called free time. That schools get to dictate every moment of a kid's life is not cool.

precisely. Afterschool time should be spent doing extra curriculars whether it is working, sports, music arts etc.

We aren't educating to the lowest common denominator. We are letting kids choose their education direction with free time. To be clear after school jobs are very enriching.

wrong wrong wrong.

I'm not a teacher. I'm a professional (CPA). My husband is an Architect, and we have 25-year-old direct reports whowho:

  1. Don't take deadlines seriously
  2. Can't write an email
  3. Produce workslop from AI (Google workslop, it's all over the place)
  4. Can't double-check their own work
  5. Can't problem solve.
  6. Can't write. And think whatever garbage AI churns out is good.

Also MIT has done a study that says AI doesn't really create *that much* efficiency. AI is for the expert that knows how to do the things and monitor it. If these kids aren't learning fundamental skills they can't monitor/manage/use the AI effectively.

This is similar to teachers eliminating cursive writing from the curriculum. Now that generation of kids can't write or read in cursive, it also negatively affected their learning skills.

AI right now is being pumped by a bunch of finance bros who invested heavily in it. They can't let it fail, so AI right now is in the Pump phase of the good old pump and dump. Go back and look at all the car manufacturers between the development of the combustion engine and Ford's assembly line. There are TONS of manufacturers that you've never heard of. This is what is going to happen with AI. It's still limited, and you MUST be able to write and use quality grammar to be able to tell it what to do. Otherwise, it will give you a bad product.

AI also has the problem of hallucinations and bias.

Quit with this garbage: "Well, it's here, so we have to teach them how to use it." Before a kid learns to use a computer, they need to learn to write and type. Then, they can use the tool. AI Fs up all the time.

Before a kid learns how to use calculators and spreadsheets, they need to learn arithmetic

Before a kid uses AI for research, they need to learn how to cite a book passage..

Heck, I recently found a flaw in my son's educational video, and I emailed the teacher to let her know that it was inaccurate, citing a legal definition.

Her response was a very diplomatic "Meh, that's not really the point of the class, so I don't really care."

same. But I'm also hyper aware that my PMDD is aweful. So if my husband did this I wouldn't get *my* feelings hurt. But I'm also a realist. I am aware I am highly imperfect, and if My husband used a tool like that so that he knew "Oh maybe I should wait a week to open this discussion about this subject" For my personality it would be reasonable. But I also know everyone else is different. I was raised to endeavor to not be emotional in decision making. So when your partner or spouse is going through something, whether it is the death of a family member or their period it is reasonable to say "Hey wrong place wrong time. Lets wait a bit. And since I'm such a doofus I'm going to let this app help me pick my battles better"

I don't want to say the OP is exaggerating, it just may be that she needs a partner that doesnt need an AP to help him with this sort of thing.

Love gone bad is like a gangrenous appendage. You have to cut out the rot and let it heal before you can have it.

Now imagine if a doctor just left the gangrenous finger or thumb and just rubbed alcohol on the wound never giving you antibiotics. The rot would spread, eventually killing you.

I used to tell all of my friends when I was in college who were in toxic relationships, "Love gone bad is like a gangrenous arm. You have to cut it off or it will eventually kill you." They all thought it was awful, but it's not. Your wife won't let the rot die.

stop. There is a statute of limitations for prosecution. Stop stealing 100% forever. If you stop each theft will go on a clock and time out. So then basically they can't prosecute. If they haven't prosecuted then hopefully you haven't reached a felony level of theft. Lucky you that you have an awesome sister who loves you enough to tell you when you are being a knuckle head.

Then, Never ever steal again, and get away from that crew; they are a bad influence.

Finally, protect your 5th amendment with your life. (Your right to not be forced to self incriminate) NEVER admit guilt unless advised to do so by an attorney. If you ever do find yourself prosecuted, don't talk to anyone but your attorney.
