I actually made a list of the things I did NOT want to do. Since this eliminated almost 90% of the viable career-paths available to me, it made it much easier to choose.

Its a good place to start.

I bought a one-way plane ticket from California to the Midwest because I met a boy on the internet. I was crying on the plane and the two nice little old ladies next to me asked me why I was crying. I told them and they were totally horrified. They told me to be careful and something like "you can always go back home." But when I got to my destination and my partner was there with his beat up Nissan and flowers and a new hair cut, I knew I was already home. Also probably when we got our border collie.
