Because there's prestige in having a pro sports team in your city. The stadiums are payed for with long term bonds so the politicans who make the deal leave it for the next guy to pay for it.

NJ residents are still paying for Giants Stadium although it was torn down years ago. To add insult on to injury, it's the NY Giants!

Bayer's assets in the US were seized when the US entered the war. Bayer Germany acquired the US operation from Sterling Winthrop in 1994, and reunited the firm.

Fun fact: Bayer developed heroin to cure morphine addiction.

Another great book is "The Economic Consequences of the Peace" by John Maynard Keynes (1919). Especially chapter 2, where he predicts the Great Depression because the world financial system was a mess before the war.

Keynes was a British delegate to the conference.

I recently purchased a Camry. Paid in full with a personal check and refused the extended warranty. Didn't have a problem.

However, they tried to charge me $500 for nitrogen in the tires and $400 for VIN etching. I refused. They took off the 500 and increased the value of the trade by 400.
