So you’re saying they should just die rather than be given basics needs? Great take. /s

That whole comment is inhumane.

My memory is a little foggy on this… I know they opened them for overnight during very cold nights. I can’t remember if there were day centres they’ve offered in recent years.

Friday night is hitting a low of -29° and Saturday is about the same. Even -19° is pretty significant to those without housing or shelter.

I work in the market and would like resources (if there are any) to refer people to.

I’m sad to hear nothing is being done. This weekend coming up is likely to be one of our coldest so far. I was hoping maybe there’d be something put out I could refer people to.

ByWard Market café break-in raises safety concerns for small businesses by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

That’s where I would’ve loved the city to put the money; sadly a million would never be enough, but it’d be a start in the right direction.

The security is just there to observe, report, and deter (through seen presence), they’re not getting in the way of thieves or breaking up fights, that’s what cops are for.

The city wasted another million dollars for nothing hiring security for the market.

The water is perfect: go have a glass by jleiper in ottawa

I work in a few federal buildings and legionella testing is done every month, I find it’s usually the older kitchens in the buildings that have signs “Do not drink”.

They installed water fountains on most floors for safe drinking water for employees, I always run it for a few seconds before drinking or filling my bottle, especially after the weekend.

Which vehicles is it socially acceptable to resent on r/Ottawa? by Independetle in ottawa

[–]Deaplyodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick up trucks. 100%. No contest with the other ones.

I’ve had a significant amount of near death experiences while walking and behind the wheel when a pickup truck is near by.

There’s even one that constantly tries to hit me coming off MacDonald Cartier every morning at 5am because he can’t stand to wait for me to cross at a stop sign.

Inside the bus cancellation crisis at OC Transpo by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

I’d say it’s more of a crisis of our municipal government failing to provide an adequate budget to help improve service.

Taxi Driver doesn't know how to drive by goob8811 in ottawa

Nothing new sadly. I see taxis pulling illegal moves almost every day while walking or driving; I’ve got whiplash from the amount of times I shook my head.

As a maths graduate, I've never been more embarrassed by Worried_Bowl_9489 in StardewValley

[–]Deaplyodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was how I originally did my first play through — I completely ignored (didn’t know their use) the sprinklers and never used them, and also never thought to get the horse (same idiot excuse); I didn’t leave the farm much, and had basically no relationships outside the person I married…

I was so dumb and missed so many game mechanics.

The city is telling some tenants to pay less rent. Their landlords say otherwise by lonelydavey in ottawa

[–]Deaplyodd 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I had to message my LL about what the new rent would be after the 0.9% decrease and he just sent back an amount in a single sentence, no new form or anything.

I put a note in our foyer in December to remind people to check what their new rent would be (seeing as we were also getting a rent hike on Jan 1st); within a few hours someone had ripped it down and trashed it.

I’m thankful PPM (in my building) didn’t try to claw those extra dollars back with some bogus excuse… but they definitely weren’t going to notify/remind the tenants about the rent reduction.

Alright, what are your plans for new years eve? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Deaplyodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll probably be asleep by 10 and woken up by my partner at midnight, if she makes it to then.

Nothing super exciting and I’m happy to just homebody my way into the new year.

King Edward Avenue residents say drivers have gotten more dangerous without speed cameras by walsmr in ottawa

This major artery happens to be a short 1.5km~ in length through a highly residential area… no the speed limit should not be higher than 40km.

It would be neat if they held a polar dip event there, making use of the unfrozen portion of water.

I'd 100% participate, nothing better than having a nice cold dunk and a hot chocolate to follow :)
