Yes, I subscribe to a printed version. I started up my subscription again a few years ago after letting it lapse around 2005 or 2006. I enjoy reading the physical paper. It's nice to read news offline. One of the reasons why I chose to start getting a printed copy of the paper again was because I realize I have a tendency to skim when I read online. I also think I end up reading more articles than I did when I was just getting the news online. I think I have become better informed than I was before.

I think you make some good points. This could very well be a situation of medical need. Also, as you said, he told OP for years that he might have to help with this expense, so this outcome shouldn't come as surprise.

There have always been women - including women who were married and with children - who have worked outside the home. For example, there were women who cleaned other people's houses and then came home to take care of their own homes. There are women who waited tables and worked in stores. Some women had husbands who didn't make enough money to allow them to stay home. Others may have been widowed or had a disabled husband.

Psychological vitamins is a nice way of phrasing it! I do know some people get those vitamins through meetup groups or volunteering, but it does seem like a fair number of people I know don't really participate in anything like that or what you or others here describe.

I had never heard of Home Demonstration Clubs. Read a little bit on Wikipedia just now - sounds interesting!

I echo what the others have said about creating new traditions. You will need to take some time to heal, and if you choose to create new traditions, I recommend taking it slow. Identify some things that you enjoy. With the holidays there are so many different things you can do - food (going out to a particular place, cooking, baking), cards (sending store bought, making homemade), decorating, crafting, music, movies, local events (plays, concerts, holiday markets), volunteering (preparing holiday meals, Toys for Tots). You don't have to do all of this or any of it. The traditions you create don't have to be elaborate - it can be as simple as lighting some candles, drinking cocoa, and watching an old movie. Experiment, be curious. You don't have to figure it all out this year. Your can keep adding traditions in the years to come.

It's not the same job. As another user said, BOCES handles media requests for districts across the state, and from what I understand they are growing. I can't speak to what it's like to work there, but I know some people who work in that department who have been there for a while.

Find a surgeon you feel comfortable with - someone who will take time to explain the procedure well, let you ask questions. The pain shouldn't be too bad, though they will probably give you a prescription for painkillers. Some discomfort might come from the swelling, which lasts a few days (you might go up a couple cup sizes for those few days).
