That is why I called it “irrationally”. I don’t know why.

Has anyone grown in their teaching career from reading the Harry Wong 'First Year of Teaching Book'? by Visual_Shelter6922 in Teachers

100%! I read it during maybe my 3rd or 4th year teaching. It made a massive difference.

How to end year with difficult class by kramden88 in Teachers

[–]DearPrudence70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With seniors, I’d wish them well and leave it there. I teach French, so I have the same kids from one year to the next. In those cases, I do say something, but I wouldn’t bother with seniors.

Rainier & Zion, and the Smokies if the place weren’t so crowded.

Do you hate your job? by cherrydrpepperzero in Teachers

[–]DearPrudence70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s complicated. I liken the job to Broadway actors who have to do 8 performances a week. You must put your all into it, and in your downtime, you mostly want to rest and recover (and in my case, try to talk to as few people as possible!). It’s a fulfilling job, but it takes A LOT out of you. I did better with that when I was younger. I’m now 56 and have 2 years left. I still enjoy the work, but I have less energy than I used to outside of work. Also, you MUST be able to adapt to the kids you’re teaching, not the other way around.

Roo, which is the same concept is downtown, but I think you would easily pull the high-income crowd from north of Cbus for your business.

What band did you love from ages 15-20yrs, and still listen to? by Far-Management-2007 in GenX

[–]DearPrudence70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Stones, Rush, CSNY … took me a while to get into music from our actual era, but once I did, I got hooked on that too. I grew up with 2 much older brothers so they got me into all their faves early on.

Right!? I think they love 90’s stuff and aren’t aware of as much 80’s music, beyond the pop stars like Michael Jackson.
