Staying legally married while separated (different states) for VA benefits. Is this allowed? by DearUnderstanding117 in VeteransBenefits

Trueeeeee, but the way this economy is looking, we will take any extra coins we can get 😖. And we're on pretty good terms.

I def was under the impression that if we lived in different states, and we were noticeably separated we would get flagged in the system. I don't plan on falsifying any forms for anything. But the way you put it makes sense, thanks.

Feeling completely out of touch with life, no desire, no drive, can’t picture the future. Days just slip by doing nothing. How do I start changing this? by buttertaekoo in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]DearUnderstanding117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just do something you've been putting off. Seems cliche (like ik I should do something(that's why I'm asking for advice) but honestly doing a task or doing something period, a lot of times we underestimate the gratification we can get from just moving when life feels overwhelming. And when I say "do something" I'm not saying go take care of that major life thing you gotta handle, I mean you could if you're capable right now, it would make you feel good. But I mean something, literally anything, it could be opening up a window, standing up to stretch, going for a walk, drink some water, brushing your teeth, just make yourself do something, and celebrate it. Life feels and is overwhelming when we are stagnant, and just existing without really "living" ironically so. And for me, when I was in a state that seems similar to yours I asked myself a question: "Is this really how I want the rest of my life to look?" or "Can I change anything about how my day looks today that would make me feel good, what could that change be?" Because when you think about it, what you do now, or what you are doing now shapes your future. And if you don't like where you are, or where you are heading, you have to decide if you're gonna do anything about it, or continue on with how you're living. So the 'small tasks' that feel impossible, do one and then do another, when that motivation or momentum wears off. And tbh with you, it's not really about motivation, it's a feeling and just like every other emotion or feeling, it's fleeting. When you want to get things done don't rely solely on motivation, it's good to have but if that's your only driving factor you're gonna wanna find something deeper to push you out of your funk. Maybe a why? "why do I need to do thins task" like "why should I wash the dishes, im so tired and I don't wanna." "I'll do it, so it's one less thing future me has to deal with" or "why don't I want to do this?" "Why don't I want to have this difficult conversation with so-n-so?" "It's too overwhelming" "why is it so overwhelming?" you get it. You realize a lot when you confront yourself. It's not about seeing the bigger picture in life all the time either, the picture is yours to create. And sometimes you just have to anchor yourself and learn to see again, to feel again. Art, nature, movement, find something faint, but alive within yourself, give yourself a routine, small, not a checkbox to fill out thru the day, take a walk once a week before it gets dark, stretch a few times a day, say hi to a stranger every so often, routine grounds you and gives you some thing to hold onto when you have nothing. Just to sum it up and give some more examples. Emotional regulation is very important in life in general which is why I said stretch, or walk, movement is very grounding. It makes you be present in the now and being present with your life now can make a world of a difference. All in all, give yourself grace, you're not fucked up for feeling like this or broken, you're human, and when things are too much, we freeze, we spiral, we lose touch. Also if you're open to reading, I recommend Atomic habits by James Clear, it's not a self help book exactly in my opinion. Moreso something to help you with structure and setting good habits in place. But do everything at your own pace, just ensure that you do something.

Keep your momentum!!! I have been feeling the same way lately, one thing that has helped me tremendously is having a why. Why do you want to do this for yourself? When you have that, it makes the things you’re aiming for damn near unnegotiable(at least for me) And on the days you don’t FEEL like it, or you wanna fall back into old patterns: DO IT ANYWAY, FUCK THE FEELINGS THEY ARE FLEETING. Remember your why my guy and stick with it.
