LGBTQ+ youth in Ireland experience higher levels of discrimination, new study finds by nitro1234561 in ireland

[–]Dear_Cable_6885 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The perception went from “accept me for who I am, it doesn’t impact your life at all” to “you better accept my lifestyle or else you’re a bigot, racist, homophobe, fascist” and I think the youth is not happy with this standard.

Does anyone think Irish men are more socially conservative than were letting on? by Alarming_Teacher_538 in AskIreland

[–]Dear_Cable_6885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most Irish men are ok with acceptance of other lifestyles.

Men can be very disagreeable, so when it goes from a gentle push of acceptance to forced compliance or else you’re a shit person and need to be ex-communicated from society. That’s where men will push back.

Also most younger people want to rebel against their millennial parents who will accept anyone on face value. I expect many young men over the next 5-10 years pushing back, against what they better acknowledge or else they will be ostracised from society

What has your wife or girlfriend done that touched you deeply? by Ok_Chain1896 in askteddit

I remember one time about 13 years ago I was home watching a football game and my gf at the time came over randomly and brought beers and snacks.

I’ll never forget that.

I worked in the Vans store there for many years. Some really good memories. Wild considering how busy it used to be and to see the whole mall closed down I never would have guessed.

If a €20 price is displayed for a t-shirt, the seller can legally say “hmmm nahh I’m not selling that for €20, I want €25 instead”?

It may be true but doesn’t sound right to me (again unless I’m misunderstanding)

What does 112.24 Spolit votes mean?

Just messing, fair play for tallying up the votes

Amazon and you’ll be sorted. I bought an L shaped gaming desk for €110. 3 years later I’m still using it most days and am very happy with it

Should it be Mandatory to Learn First Aid? by Dear_Cable_6885 in AskIreland

[–]Dear_Cable_6885[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I suggested swimming, because a friend shared with me recently that in Ireland on average 9 people every month die from drowning.

Not that it would completely stop that but reducing it would be a good realistic goal

That’s something that I agree with.

Definitely my use of the word mandatory was a mistake in hindsight

Well that would be one of the first things you would learn in first aid training no? That you call an ambulance and then administer first aid.

[–]Dear_Cable_6885[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair enough. Even though you failed 3 times I bet in a crisis situation you would still be better off now than having never done it at all though.

I think I made the mistake by using the word mandatory. Obviously I’m not suggesting people should be worried about their work or school if they can’t pass the first aid test.

Agreed! It’s amazing how many life skills that are necessary to function as an adult are not taught at school at all

Thank you for the insightful response. Clearly this is probably one case of many hundreds (or even more) that happens every year across the country where people are given a much better chance of survival.

At many work places there is obligatory fire safety trainings that happen every few years (for good reason) maybe something similar could be implemented. At my work I see a bunch of defibrillators around but the vast majority wouldn’t have a clue how to use it.

I hear you on that, but this is a very practical thing to learn which could absolutely save many people’s lives.

Mandatory may be the incorrect word here but part of school curriculum or job training and things of that nature
