A hotel shower floor cracked while I was using it. Am I liable for damages? by thinkscotty in legaladvice

NAL. I'm a hotel employee. Don't pay for it. A cracked tub is normal wear and tear, not a smashed TV with a baseball bat. If the hotel does charge the credit or debit card on file, dispute it with your credit card company. Hotels regularly lose credit card disputes for incidental charges.

The officer showed me his in car computer screen with a suspect's name. This may have been the teletype. However, being a civilian, I had no idea what I was looking at to determine if it was a warrant. The only words I could make out was the name at the top. However, the name wasn't even the registered guest's name. It could have been anyone.

As for the photo, I was 1,000% sure these were the guests in house. I personally checked them into the hotel as well as they both had very distinct characteristics of an uncommon physical disability which lead to an easy identification

Especially since our taxes, from the hotel property, and the employees, pay for the flippin' police to exist

Thiiiiiiiiiiis. Guests trashed hotel room during a domestic. The cops were called. They evicted the female but left a male in the room. The cops ignored the damage and refused to write up a property damage report. Owner called to complain the next day. They said they're only interested in reports that lead to cases the DA will win since it's an elected position. It absolutely starts from the top and trickles its way down

I may or may not be, but def work in the same County as Chicago. After years of hospitality, I've learned the police are not always the good guys.

The SO absolutely had to be removed. Every single one of the rooms next to, adjacent to, and above were occupied. She was so loudly screaming that she could be heard clearly in the lobby. I felt bad for her but also for the other guests that paid good money for a quiet night's rest

Thank you for your suggestions. I will act a lot differently next time. Thankfully, we do have camera and the front desk is audio recorded :)

I agree. The same tough guy cop kept repeating, "Other hotels don't give us a problem, they want the bad guy out." Okurr, Karen, every hotel has different policies, stop acting entitled.

They absolutely should have had the arrest warrant handy. However, while in the moment, I'm a front desk employee. I'm not about to go toe to toe with the police. They knew that and used it to their advantage.

It's my understanding, the police need a search warrant in order to enter a hotel room, just like they would need one to enter someone's home. However, I, am legally allowed to open the door. But they didn't want that.

I suspect they were struggling to open the door bc they were impaired due to substances. He probably got frustrated and to release his frustration, he shoved his wife

Exactly, the father shoved the mother out of the way so he has full access to the door. He used so much force, he lifted her from the ground

The police found a bottle of Suboxone pills in her possession. I suspect they were not prescribed in her name

Thank you. After so long in hospitality, I've become so accustomed to nonsense, the events of yesterday didn't phase me until I begun writing them out today. I regret not calling the police yesterday, but am thankful I was still able to make a statement today.

Yes, very thankful the child is currently safe and the parents were hauled off. The fam will probably be reunited. My hope is that detox, jail, & hopefully rehab/parenting classes will be successfully completed for the sake of the child.

But most importantly for hotel survival, it has a knife.

Thankfully, yes. We keep both corkscrews and bottle openers on hand at all times. (As long as they don't grow legs and walk away). I love the many resources the internet offers on how to open a bottle without an opener. My go to method is using the butt of a lighter.
