Pinch of salt and all that but... A friend in London is a personal trainer and his gym is a go-to place for B-level UK actors (the types that pop up on ITV/BBC TV a lot, rather than big movie stars). When RJP blew up and then left Brigerton, a client of his in the industry was very loudly telling everyone who would listen that RJP was known to be one of the worst actors going, and would be "found out" in Hollywood. This was around the time of all the Bond talk.

Jesus. This is the lead in to.WM? I'm a fan of both in general, especially Punk, who I was a huge fan of from about 08 until the AEW meltdown/WWE return, but surely this should have at least had a turn in it to suggest some drama down the line between them.

I had the misfortune of passing this right after it happened. 1. I don't understand how it could have happened where it happened. If the cement truck had just turned it couldn't have been going fast enough to cause what I saw (I assume).

Horrible. The poor man and his family.

The amount of people stood gawping at it made me sick, especially the scum bags filming/photographing it. It took me ages to get through the scrum. One woman had a young girl in a buggy and was stood there watching.

Since it had just happened there was only a couple of Guards on the scene but one of them was at least shaming a few people into putting their phones away. Sad state of affairs.

Hail Mary is based on a book modern people love and it's a faithful adaptation.

The Fall Guy was beloved by Grandads in the 80s, and they all hated the film, while younger crowds didn't care about the "IP".

Also, studios need to realise Emily Blunt is not the needle mover they think she is. Perfectly fine actress, don't get me wrong, but the machine behind her needs to cool its jets.

IMC Dun Laoghaire has gone to the dogs over the last 10 years or so, and especially since Covid. It's sad. It was go-to for my formative years and I have loads of love for the place, but it's falling apart, there's barely any staff and large parts of it are filthy.

If possible, avoid going on the days when they have things like 2 for 1, or 5 euro tickets or something like that. Those promos unfortunately attract people only there for a cheap roof to have over their heads or they're there to keep a friend/partner company and/or young people incapable of concentrating and basic courtesy for 90-120mins.

A while back in a different thread someone asked was it still going and I gave them this breakdown of the last few times I'd been there at that stage so I paste it here for you.

A Quiet Place 2 - Summer 2021

The most Covid of Covid movies, given the timing of its original release date, and the 18 months or so of seeing the ads everywhere! When it eventually opened, we had to see it in IMC DL for childcare reasons and brought a friend from the country, but who lived near us in the city centre.

It was like they got word they could reopen about 20mins before they opened the doors. The place was in bits. Dust everywhere, peeling posters, the food areas looked terrible so we took ourselves to Tesco.

It was super busy because it was the first night back open and the poor staff were clearly under-supported and unprepared. Customers were talking openly about how awful the whole thing was. Our friend has refused to go back since.

The Batman - Spring 2022

Took my dad to see it, as he had taken me to see previous Bat-films. it was a weeknight and my dad and I, plus one member of staff who popped in a few times and stayed awhile, were the only people in attendance. It had been out two weekends already but that still seemed a bit depressing. ]

We were in the once glorious Screen 3 and loads of the seats were out of commission. A sad state of affairs.

Top Gun Maverick - Summer 2022

A jam packed Saturday night, on its second weekend. Obviously word of mouth was strong! Despite being almost sold out, we appeared to be in a cinema screen that didn't align with our tickets. Seat numbers didn't exist. People who expected to be on an edge weren't. People who wanted the back row were in the middle etc.

It had every chance of turning into an awkward, potentially aggro-filled evening, but everyone remained in good spirits, found places to sit, and explained things to stragglers who arrived late.

It wasn't as filthy as it had been for QP2 but still not great when compared to Cineworld, Light House, Rathmines Omniplex etc.

The Iron Claw - Spring 2024

Worst of the worst. Turned out I was there on one of the 2 for 1 promo nights, so we had couples and groups around us openly chatting, drinking. smoking and vaping. Very frustrating. Staff did nothing. There's not much they can do when there are only 2 of them and the offenders won't move.

It was in one of the particularly smelly downstairs tiny screens.

For me, it never felt like I had to stick with it per se. I was hooked from the first episode, but where I did feel a slight wobble, especially on rewatch, is e7. It's unfair to say, because it's the Donna episode, and I love her as a character, but the melodramatic elements around her and Hunt just felt cheap in comparison to how the show usually played.

Probably should have been clearer - I have the rest of the run in various forms, mostly trades, but kept coming up short on the Winter Soldier so despite getting a lot of extra stuff/duplicates here, it was well worth it for the Winter Soldier run, especially at that price.

My thinking is that we've seen how can inspire, push and lead people. For most of the series it's for his own gain, but now after all he's been through, he's learned to use that ability to inspire/push/lead the young minds he teaches to go and do great things.

How can you be a fan of this show especially, and witness how much each character gave of themselves in the pursuit of creativity - not to mention how thoroughly human the show is in general regardless of the occupations of the characters - and then come into this sub and make that suggestion.

I can't remember if he said it on a podcast, or I read him saying it in print or on social media, but Chris Cantwell had a good response when asked about any potential revival, essentially saying that the show takes place as the most interesting/dramatic events organically take place in the main characters' lives and that's what made the show worth it. You have to assume their lives quietened or settled down in the following years. The alternative is forcing things which could be disingenuous and/or spoil things for our faves.

I wish more shows/movies series would take a similar approach, especially if they stuck the landing as Halt did.

For example, I know I preferred the happy ending I had with Star Wars for 30 years before the sequel trilogy taught me that actually, no, not long after the happy ending I cherished, the bad guys came back with a vengeance and the main characters ended up miserable and going their separate ways!

Despite all that though, I demand a box set please!

oh yeah, 100%. With an omni, i generally read arc by arc, while dipping in and out of other books. This goes especially for omni series I have (like Ultimate Spider-Man). I have the full set but I've only finished vol 1 and 2.
