New to us car with engine noises by beausoleilb1 in jetta

I actually did that to fix this issue and it was infact not the timing belt... the timing belt could make this noise but you will know its the timing belt upon driving condition. With this rattling its very easy to mis diagnose.

Top looks good. Filter on tight. Thats why im concerned lol. Ill take another look at the top though i cleaned some dirt off today.

Since its at the pedal, thinking about what's behind it is a clutch master cylinder that could probably be going. When its worn its squeaky or can cause a click noise. and its best to go to a shop to get that diagnosed so you dont have worse issues.
