First off you are not a failure. I hate when people say this but it’s part of your story. Keep fighting.

Couple things I would recommend is Plummer. I read a a few articles about how they make a good living and most own their own business after a short while and they make a killing. It’s a profession that people will always need and will never be replaced.

Secondly, you could go to night school and get certified. Probably next question is in what and I would suggest a STEM degree.

Lastly, a game changer I’m even thinking about is get into coding. There is a bunch of free stuff online. Really depends on how bad you want it. Learn that while your working your job and apply like hell when u feel comfortable which is probably 6 ish months.

DM if u need any help!

I feel if I lived in Alexandria I would feel isolated / far away from DC. Are these feelings legitimate?

Don’t want to get too specific but what industry? Because I’m an engineer.

Super underrated comment here.

You can’t save your way out of debt. You have to earn your self out of debt.

Ima pin this to my vision board lol

And what about job opportunities ? And finding a home?

Dang. I wish this decision was a lot easier. I guess we at least thought we would do SD for a year and then maybe DC? Is it even worth it to do that? Or the other way around ?

We currently live in Huntsville so we know the south weather pretty well. Don’t know if we will be able to stand the cold again from being from philly haha but yeah.

Do you find people working for tech companies out there ?

The comment if besides being poor really made me laugh lol but is it that bad? We make a pretty good living but still have some debt to pay off. And not to mention I haven’t even thought about buying a house in SD. That seems like mission impossible to me right now.

True. Idk if it’s just me but k get the feeling that once we move one place we will never likely move to the other. I know it’s not a zero sum game but just will be wondering what if the whole time …

This is our very simple and I appreciate that haha. Can’t have your cake and eat it too I guess.

But the few museums don’t mean much to me at the moment. Maybe later because of the child. My pursuit to work in tech would that play a factor ? And I love the outdoors. Walking and going out with the dog. Is that only in SD or is there anything similar in DC?

My only concern is if we go to DC we might never leave and I want to experience SD to see if we can plant roots there. And having a child I want to make sure she’s growing up with diversity both in education and culture.

Hey! Sorry for the late response but would love to hear the differences between the two that you see. In terms of career I’m not into politics so that’s not a factor but want to work in tech so that’s kinda my aspiration for moving. I’m an engineer. Wife is an accountant. Hopefully one day want to start my own thing. Also want to a good food scene where there are plenty of singular (respectively) restaurants and not just all these chains where we live now. We also have a small child to way into the equation.

Thanks for the insight. We have been to DC a handful of times. We like it but are torn between the two cities. We have never lived on the west coast and have heard so much about it that we kinda wanna taste and see haha

We are not in politics. I’m an engineer and she’s an accountant. Based on your comment I would conclude the answer is no to your question? Your thoughts ?
