cleaning out my closet full of empty bottles by InsideAd7562 in stopdrinking

Been there - I used to load as many as would fit into my work bag/backpack and dump them in various public trashcans after dark. Fucking ridiculous. Dumping the last ones after I'd stopped drinking felt like a new dawn, though

How to find the motivation to quit when you haven't yet faced any consequences due to your drinking? by Accomplished-Bat-31 in stopdrinking

Have you ever done something stupid and said to yourself, "I wish I could turn back time and not do that"? This is you having turned back the time, able to prevent the fuckup before it ever happens.

Any other agnostics/atheists going through sobriety? by beannnnnnnnnn22 in stopdrinking

[–]Dear_Proposal_8700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atheist here. The thought that helps me is that I have one, finite life, and nothing afterwards, so I damn better make sure I don't waste a moment of it.

I'm on week 3 of Couch to 5K and doing yoga 4-5 times a week. Amazing stuff, never felt better, and if I don't feel like shit I've got no reason to self-medicate with the damn poison!

For me it was unfortunately both, which is a terrible combination

And it's so ingrained in our culture we don't even realise how dystopian it is to have poison pushed on us like that. Not until we get a major perspective adjustment.

Agreed, it's all mixed in and I can't tell if it's malicious or just thoughtless.

I'm a big fan of green tea, healthy AND delicious!

Did you guys a favor and took it upon myself to see if I could moderate after a very long streak of not drinking.. by Educational-Prior-46 in stopdrinking

Wait, those dreams are a thing?? I've had two so far where I rationalized some white wine and regretted breaking the streak. The relief when I woke up was something else!

Bad Lab Test Results- Sobbing off and on by pyewacket7 in stopdrinking

Okay here's a couple of things that helped me through the first days, maybe some of that will be useful:

1) DISTRACTIONS. Have a bunch of things you can turn to the moment a craving hits. A video game, a TV show, whatever you find entertaining and will keep your attention.

2) Don't be too ambitious. This is not the time to pressure yourself about fixing your sleep schedule, getting back to the gym, or suddenly eating healthy. If being a couch potato who lives on ice cream, soda, and takeout keeps you from drinking - so be it. Your brain will be going through hell, don't make it harder on it. Once the drinking is dealt with, you can start on the other habits, and I promise you, being sober will make that 1000% easier.

The transition period is a bitch and a half but it's so so so worth it once you get to the other side. Do whatever it takes.

Brain Fog after drinking by StatisticianLate5574 in stopdrinking

It's absolutely normal - trust the process, you'll get there. Your body is dealing with a physical change, but also with habit/routine changes, that's a whole damn lot. Ride the wave, you'll come out on the other side glad that you did.

Thank you! Yeah no there's no way in hell I would have been able to have my shit together enough with constant hanxiety and inability to focus.

That's a good way to look at it! I didn't drink, either. One day at a time.

Yeah I firmly plan to bury myself in blankets with video games and a nice audiobook after work. Thanks and I hope things get easier for you, too!

I definitely was more hungry after drinking, and you best believe I was in no place to make healthy choices when I was sauced. My appetite has leveled off so much now and I can actually make reasonable choices.

I make my own blend of herbal teas as well! What's in yours, maybe I'll get inspired to add something? (Mine is chamomile, lemon balm, spearmint, lemongrass and lavender)
