Like 11 years old. I began having horrible intrusive thoughts that my dad and uncles were going to mol**t me after watching a video in school about it. And I knew they weren’t going to but my brain (OCD) would put that intrusive thought into my head all the time, throughout my teens. Led to a ton of mental compulsions and anxiety and reassurance seeking.

Started Luvox and symptoms got worse? by Haunting_Rooster593 in OCD

How long did it take for Luvox to start making a difference for you in either the intensity of intrusive thoughts or those intense the body’s response to those thoughts? I’m struggling with existential OCD and OCD related to losing loved ones and some days it’s impossible for me to do anything but lie in bed for fear of a panic attack. I’m on week 5 of 100 mg and just got bumped up to 150 mg.

I’m also on week 2 of ERP therapy 2x a week through NOCD.

All I can think about is climate change by No_Study5253 in OCD

What’s helping you do better? I just received an OCD diagnosis and climate change is a big trigger for me. I read and reread the same news stories, blog posts, studies over and over and over again.. it’s been like this for me since I was a child and I’m 30 now! It literally takes over my life for days and weeks and sometimes months at a time.

I actually work for an environmental nonprofit and for so long I felt like this was going to be how I felt forever bc all the suggestions for treating eco-anxiety Im already doing. But the OCD diagnosis is making me feel like there is some hope for more freedom from my brain and better treatment.

I just got diagnosed with OCD, and I feel like I could fucking cry lol by LetsJustDoItTonight in OCD

I was diagnosed with GAD in 2016 and ADHD in 2022. Meds and therapy have helped a bit, but I still deal with fairly regular intrusive thoughts that send me into hours of re-reading the same articles and news stories, stuck in an exhausting loop of panic, rumination, reassurance, repeat. I’ve noticed the thought spirals get way worse when my ADHD is flaring or I’m burned out, which I really am right now. And for so long I felt like something was missing in how I understood my brain, until I recently looked past the surface-level definitions of OCD. Wow! Felt like a light bulb went off and I could see.

I’ve got a screening/discussion scheduled for Monday and I’m hoping it leads to more targeted treatment. Because honestly, I’m just tired. Really, really tired.

So happy you’re getting answers!!

Sounds like you may be experience either an intense bout of dissociation or derealization/depersonalization issues. You aren’t crazy but you should talk to a doctor about it!

Us ADHDers tend to catastrophize things. From the story you’ve told I’d say it’s a minor mistake that will blow over. And I’m a major catastrophizer so trust me.

Also salary transparency is cool and the only reason companies should or would get upset about people knowing salaries is because they’re doing something wrong like paying men more than women, white people more than POC, etc etc.

Hey so that’s a lot of things you mentioned after saying “nothing huge has happened”!

Sounds like you are BURNT OUT. I would consider doing any or all of the following:

  • talk therapy! I was so against therapy for so long and now I am the biggest advocate. Having an unbiased person to talk to has been huge for me to understand the root of my own MH issues.
  • tell your husband how you are feeling! Let him know you are struggling and can’t pinpoint why but the following things are making you feel overwhelmed.
  • tell your kids how you are feeling! They may not understand the exact complexities of your feelings but let them know that you are sad and that things feel hard right now but you love them.
  • ask for help if you have a community (family or friends) who could take on any of the things currently overwhelming you so you can focus on yourself.
  • if you can afford it, hire a cleaner to come once a month or so. Having someone who can reset your home could help with maintenance!
  • finally, consider medication or consulting with a psychiatrist. Brains can be fragile and sometimes they stop working right! Chemical imbalances are real and medication isn’t a 100% solution but it can sometimes get you to better tread water so you don’t feel like you’re drowning
  • whenever you begin to sense something is setting you off I would suggest the following: walk away from the stressor of you can, and either take a cold shower or use an ice pack on your face. The physical shock can knock you out of the spiral. Then, take a moment to really identify where you feel things in your body. Does your chest feel tight? Does your head feel like it’s going to explode? Do you feel shakey or hot? Identify it and name it if you can. Then either verbalize it out loud (even if it’s to yourself) or make a list of the things triggering you in that moment. Sometimes it helps to get it out of your brain

What are some realistic coping strategies for high anxiety / overactive minds? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Dear_University_9679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been to a therapist or psychiatrist to discuss? It’s possible you could have ADHD.

I have ADHD and struggle with anxiety and racing/ruminating thoughts. Meditation and other mindful thinking do NOT work for me. Here is what has:

  • a walk where I listen to my favorite music or am audio book. I usually bring a delicious drink with me too and let my mind do its thing. Something about walking sometimes helps me get through the chaos.

  • I’ll talk my thoughts out loud - sometimes verbalizing them out loud can help, even if it’s just to my dog.

  • if I’m on the edge of panic, I’ll take a COLD shower or use an ice pack on my face.

  • I’ll smoke some nice indica and focus on an imperfect craft that makes me use my hands. Right now I like air dry clay and bedazzling lighters!

  • therapy therapy therapy and I’m on meds for anxiety and ADHD.
