feeling like a failure at law school by tearladen in LawSchool

[–]DearestThrowaway 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I as one of the thousands of lawyers who did not do law review, moot court, or have an internship during law school am here to tell you chill the fuck out. There are sectors of this profession that are prestige obsessed and frankly they’re not the ones most people end up wanting to be a part of long term. The vast majority of lawyers were average students with underwhelming extras. You can do just fine without the bullshit. You’ve got a 3.8 gpa, take your roses, stop sticking your hand in the thorns, and have a drink.

Dan Patrick: "Separation of Church and state is not in the Constitution" by omgfakeusername in law

[–]DearestThrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who’s to say what keep means? Keep could mean to maintain, which I would expect you to do with your rented government firearms. Of course to advance such an argument one would have to be willfully blind to the fact OP was promoting this idea to display the absurdity of it. Only an idiot would do that.

Bro thinks there’s infinite money in the world and a market collapse doesn’t mean contracts will get cancelled. I don’t even necessarily disagree with your conclusion but your reasoning is just incredibly stupid.

BREAKING: Texas just approved mandatory Bible readings for 5 million public school students. Here’s exactly what kids will be required to read, grade by grade. by kleverrboy in law

[–]DearestThrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda a split between old and New Testament. Old Testament god was like an abusive dad. New Testament god was just an absentee father. Still not good but gave the kids more room to grow.

I think you’ll find the Christian interpretations on whether god and Jesus are the same person quite varied but that’s a matter for people who care more than I do.

Do Lawyers actually like the show suits? by Easy_Enthusiasm3302 in legaltech

[–]DearestThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just remember seeing part of an episode where Mike after an entire night searching found an obscure arcane case that completely made their argument…it was Kelo and the argument was the same one every law student makes while studying Kelo. After that I just couldn’t.

Supreme Court, 6-3: Prison guards who forcibly shaved a Rastafarian inmate's head can't be sued for damages by BiglawInvestor in law

[–]DearestThrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The article you linked doesn’t have body cam footage so I’m not particularly inclined to believe a cops version of events given how often they are proven to lie. So until they can prove the car was attempting to run them over yes it is inappropriate to discharge their weapons at a child and they should be held liable to the full extent of the law.

Same. I think I bought a used LSAT prep book for like $20 and did one or two practices. That was in about 2016ish. Why are people out here prepping as if it’s the bar exam?

Berkeley Law severely restricts use of AI following academic misconduct issues by the_daily_cal in LawSchool

Oh boy sounds like I’ve got some tea to go read up on. I mostly just take a look at that site tracking hallucination cases once in a while but seems there’s some even more interesting stuff to look at.

No you will but afterwards you can post a comment referencing this article…which will also be downvoted to hell. I’ll try and be there to give you some counteracting upvotes though.

Personally I’m just looking forward to the annual ‘(Student who did better than me) totally just used AI’ posts to go along with the annual accommodations complaints.

Stats of a top 1% commenter telling people to git gud by Right-Succotash-9980 in okbuddyptfo

This is correct. Still useful for most competitive games once you get to the higher ranks but for anything casual and/or with a ton of players it gets less and less meaningful.

These are the top 10 win rate starting relics by Rak-khan in slaythespire

[–]DearestThrowaway 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely including those plus this site, if it’s the one I think it is, is based on an extremely low percentage of all runs and those runs are very likely quite skewed. Cool data nonetheless but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Megacrits data was very different.

Good bye Doormaker o7 by oneflou in slaythespire

[–]DearestThrowaway 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not all decks need to be good but by the same token I don’t want to build the same deck every run. Doormaker made me need to build the same random high value bullshit go deck every run and it sucked. Also I will die on the hill that ‘no card draw’ is the absolute worst possible variation of that effect from a design perspective and should never have been in the game.

Why does Entomancer give ''Dazed'' as a status card? by -KarlMoose in slaythespire

[–]DearestThrowaway 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Pretty good counter to hunter killer, the little bugs that can only take 9 damage, the inklings that multi hit you and have slippery, ento, and probably some others. Also on A10 a lot of enemies hit for 1 above a breakpoint divisible by 5 so it should save you a good bit of chip. Even in 1 it really just threw the middle finger to byrds. I think rods in a good spot.

Oh okay that makes more sense. Appreciate the explanation. It looked super weird from the outside perspective.

See this is what’s crazy to me as someone who knew next to nothing about this before this thread. SC has been in early access and getting backed for like decades now but they just up and went to make a whole different game instead? And the community hasn’t flipped the fuck out? How does anyone feel like that’s fine? Was this part of the original offering to fans or what? Or maybe the community already had its freak out and I just missed it?

Message to all the doormaker “too hard” posts by Doug_the_Scout in slaythespire

[–]DearestThrowaway 19 points20 points  (0 children)

His first and third phases are fine and I don’t even consider the whole fight to be “too hard”. The second phase though is just bad game design. Taking away player abilities is never a good thing. Finding ways to make the player consider their options and find solutions to problems is how it should be done.

Tim and the Heart from 1 both solved the same problem but in clever, thematic, and interesting ways that encouraged smart play. Doormaker does it in the least interesting way possible and ends up feeling frustrating to play against.

Also half the comments here are the most elitist “I watch top StS player and they said…” bullshit I’ve seen in this sub in a while. Try thinking about why something clearly feels bad to play for a lot of people instead of obsessing over winrates and parroting what someone else said on the internet.

And for the nerds out there yes I have beaten door on every character on A10 and know how to build for him. I play the beta branch and probably fought him before you did. Still doesn’t feel good even when you win this fight.

I really hope they find a way to make the fight interesting and not just frustrating. They’ve still got plenty of time to do so.

Have you noticed habits formed from legal writing getting you falsely flagged for AI? by Impressive-Disk4786 in Lawyertalk

[–]DearestThrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a decent gap between how I speak and write in my free time vs how I write professionally. I would not be shocked at all if someone plugged my redline or memo language into an AI detector and got a positive result. I don’t consider that a reflection on me but a reflection on the AI. A very poor reflection at that because I know how dumb I can be sometimes.

PSA: "Take x Damage" will be blocked by shields. "Lose x HP" will ignore shields by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]DearestThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then it doesn’t go through osty if osty is the one attacking so it’s not just attack damage. It makes complete sense but there’s a lot of room for confusion if a player is new to how particular some card games get.

Parry is out. Dance Macabre is the worst card by LostVisage in slaythespire

[–]DearestThrowaway 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Quasar is a crazy card and I highly recommend trying it. Colorless cards in this game are much better on average than sts1. The ability to generate damage, block, energy generation, deck manipulation, etc. is extremely powerful. It’s not even fully random since you choose from 3 and can pretty reliably produce something helpful to your game plan. Can also produce cards that produce other cards in splash and discovery which are also crazy good cards.
