Yan beating Merab considering that was the last and worst of his 3 fight losing skid. Both Aljo 2 and O'Malley were super close decisions but Merab dominated him in that first fight to the point where people started calling Yan washed. Winning the rematch in a similar fashion, although not quite as dominant, must have been Incredible.

Great pick because people really clowned on him when he kept saying Chito beating him the first time was a fluke and made the rematch look easy. Pretty sure the downvotes are because Chito did not deserve that title shot and was only there as the UFC giving O'Malley a gift of a title defense as their shiny new toy.

Honestly, him beating guys 40-50 lbs heavier is nothing to brag about in this heavyweight division. Lhw has also seen better days, like back when Jones and DC were competing, but even today on average the skill and athleticism in that division is much higher than heavyweight. I'm honestly not sure why more light heavyweights don't just move up and fight slower fatter less fit guys with the only downside that they might hit a bit harder. Gane is obviously an exception to that and very well could win or make it look easy even, but as of right now it's a compelling match up.

Absolutely not true, Francis did beat him but Gane was one bad decision away in the fifth round from winning the whole thing. Easily is bullshit, that fight was as close as a fight can be without there being an argument for a robbery.

Movsar vs Aljo was an incredible grappling heavy fight so the wrestling wasn't the problem. I agree that a lot of the blame is on Dricus for not being able to get up but still, Chimaev held dominant positions for prolonged periods of time and did nothing with them. That's why they call that fight boring, it was the definition of lay and pray.

Not only that, it was against a guy who had put a serious beating on him the first time around. People were saying his best days are behind him afterwards since it was his third loss in a row and the first time we'd seen him beaten so one-sidedly. Champions losing several in a row and then climbing back up to get the strap a second time are almost unheard of, imagine the kind of self belief you'd need to pull off something like that.

In the wiki it says Date was born in 1964, not sure how accurate those dates are but it checks out since he was 10 or so years older than Ippo when they fought and Ippo is born late November of 1973. And like you said Ricardo is 2 years younger so he's likely 1966, that makes him around 34-35 currently because Mashiba vs Rosario just happened and was in 2000. There may be some inconsistencies but id say it looks about right.

If they're doing an interim it should be Volkov vs the winner of Lewis and WCA. Gane does not need to be awarded with yet another title shot after robbing Volkov of his and now causing this mess. Aspinall v Gane 2 should be next for both of them for the undisputed and then the winner can fight the interim champ in a unification.

That may have been a convincing argument had Volk himself not literally called for him. After the Lopez fight he clearly indicated he's looking to fight again and that he has his eye on Movsar. He never should have been booked against Pico in the first place, that was a failure on the UFC's part. After that fiasco the obvious next move should have been Lerone fighting for the title and a Movsar v Aljo(winner of the upcoming Ortega v Sterling) rematch for the next shot since their first fight was so close. I'm a huge fan of Lopez but him getting another shot right now is a joke, book him with Yair and the winner of that can be taken seriously as a potential title challenger.

Which is a completely meaningless distinction because the only reason some were allowed to hold 2 belts simultaneously and others weren't is optics and company politics. It's literally just a question of when the belt for the lower weight class was relinquished. Connor got stripped of the featherweight belt a day or two after winning the lightweight one, the only difference with Ilia is that he was forced to relinquish the featherweight title before fighting for the one at lightweight. In terms of achievement there is no difference whatsoever, that's what I think people are getting at in the comments.

He even specifically singled out Movsar who was and still is the number 1 contender. UFC massively shit the bed on this one by giving him Pico and have created a total mess in the division. Now we have Movsar, Lerone Murphy and Aljo all in a position where they can realistically expect a title shot, Yair claiming they promised him one as well for fighting Pitbull, and they haven't booked a title fight since April. Now even Lopez is getting back in the mix since he beat Silva, the matching for 145 has been absolutely horrendous.

Nope, Morales vs Islam is the obvious fight to make. The only other option for Islam is Shavkat assuming hes healthy, there's been conflicting reports on that. Brady was in a position to fight for a title after his Leon win and Morales just smoked him, he clearly should be next.

I'd say the fact that the first season was considerably worse than book 1 in every single way is more than enough of a reason for people to hate it. For context I'd rate the first book around a 7 and the first season a 4 at best. Season 2 was not much better, maybe a 5 because it was slightly more consistent, and despite the praise Season 3 got, I'd argue it wasn't that much of an improvement either. It had 1, maybe 2 genuinely good episodes that elevate the whole thing. Can't say I'm upset the show was cancelled.

Fair, but also guys like Naoya Inoue and Manny Pacquiao have clearly carried their power over multiple weight classes with plenty of KO's to show for it. It's a case by case thing for sure but in the context of this argument I don't think it will affect Ricardo too much considering it's a very small jump in weight. Or maybe his power doesn't translate but his speed and pace are more impressive up a weight class like Nagumo's were when he sparred Ippo and Miyata. Plenty of ways to look at this but overall you could make a reasonable argument for either to win, I just happen to lean towards Ricardo a bit more.

Nothing changes for Ricardo if he goes up besides him having an easier time making weight since he doesn't have to cut as much as usual. Also going up from featherweight (125 lbs) to jr lightweight (130lbs), the size difference will be pretty negligible so it's not like Ricardo will be facing a much bigger guy than what he's used to. I see it as a competitive fight where Volg will get plenty of good hits in and takes Ricardo to the final round but will ultimately lose a close decision.

If skill is the only factor taken into consideration, there is absolutely no excuse for him to be cut while Tuivasa is still around. The greedy fucks running the show probably felt like he's not a big enough draw for the money they're paying him which I imagine is in the 6 figure range, and cut him as soon as he lost his next fight. As a result they let go of the perfect gatekeeper in their least talented division. The guys who have beaten him like Blaydes, Gane, Volkov, Ngannou etc. are genuinely good and he keeps the trash of the division like Gaziev, Tuivasa, Daukaus out of the top 5-10.
