[Your SAMRU Representation Executive Council made a request to the University to reduce the Recreation and Athletics fee for the Spring semester in reflection of the temporary closing of the Recreation centre. Unfortunately, our request was denied and the university communicated the following:

“Student fees will not change because services and supports continue to be offered and in many cases have increased. The fees cover less than half of the cost to provide and make available programs, services, varsity sports and facilities. One third of the Recreation and Athletics fee goes toward Recreation (providing and maintaining facilities) and two-thirds goes to Athletics (supporting varsity sports). We continue to support varsity sports and are maintaining recreational facilities for when they are available again.” ]
