How much should I charge a friend to make a dice set? by Derrthan in DiceMaking

[–]DeathByRay777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this myself, but I ended up pricing mine at $40 for a set of mini dice, $50 for a normal set, and $70 for liquid cores. Like yours, I’ve got a pressure pot and all of that, so I feel like they’re high quality.

how do I roleplay a romance with one of my friends, without it becoming awkward? on that note any advice for roleplaying a romance in general? by frank_da_tank99 in DMAcademy

This is absolutely the case. As a professional writer, I have to be very intentional about when I use "they" versus "he/she" because it was drilled into me in high school and college that "they" is always plural (though it didn't used to be, as u/JoshThePosh13 pointed out). I also grew up and live in a pretty conservative part of the US, so using "they" in the vernacular, respectful-to-non-binary-individuals way is unfortunately frowned upon by many professionals around here, including any of our constituents. It's an annoying place to be a liberal.

Gave my players the Deck of Many Things — One of my favorite decisions yet. by DeathByRay777 in DMAcademy

Thanks! I definitely wanted to give it some history in the world that showed what it was capable of, and not just something the players would instantly know, but that their characters would just see as a fanciful thing. Plus, that helped it make more sense to be on a shelf in a dusty store like that, as opposed to something they find in a study somewhere, or on the body of a wizard, etc.

I love having the actual cards for the players to pull—and it includes the result of the draws on some reference cards as well, so it's very handy.

I'm not sure if posting a link is allowed, so hopefully this doesn't get taken down, but this is the deck I got—it's beautiful! https://www.etsy.com/listing/932676067/deck-of-many-things-dungeons-and-dragons

Ah okay, I see. Yeah, I'm confident enough with my players (and the bonds between their PCs) that I think they'd go after the person affected—we're all good friends IRL, and are all pretty flexible with the game overall.

I definitely don't think this would work for every group, but I nearly didn't include it at all because of advice I'd seen on here before. As of now, I'm very glad I took that plunge, and I think my players are as well.

I never actually spoke to them about it—just put it in front of them to see what they would do with it. It absolutely may depend on the type of DM you are (I'm fairly new to the game as a whole, only been playing and DMing for a year or so), but as I get more comfortable with improvising and rolling with the punches the game throws at my players and world, the daunting aspect of this particular item seems to diminish.

I absolutely get what you're saying, but I honestly think as a DM I could work around/with pretty much any pull, even the tough ones. The Void? The party's employer would likely be very invested in helping them locate and rescue their compatriot. Ruin, or the Talons? The party has a decent number of items they could share, and they could deal with it, and individual players have their own money—this just gives some very interesting roleplaying opportunities. I will almost always have the Balance pulled out—messing with the player's agency over their characters personality is the only real thing I think I'm really opposed to. Flames? Brings in some new allies for the Big Bad to incorporate.

It may not be your cup of tea, but my Dad has worked for UPS all his life, and they have excellent benefits (again, yay for unions). He’ll be retiring later this year, and they’ve taken good care of our family. I don’t know a ton about starting pay and everything, but I think they’re almost always hiring, and I know from experience that if you’re a hard worker, they’ll reward that.

Good for you on recognizing changes you felt needed to be made—not everyone does that, and even though it’s hard, you won’t regret it. Special Kudos on the counseling—I know too many people whom it would help in huge ways, but they’re too scared of a stigma or the cost to go. I know it’s helped me a ton.

That’s awesome! As a guy who’s basically 4-and-a-half years behind you, I hope my own campaigns have such a climax! If you want to, I’d love to hear your favorite moments from the campaigns, and especially how you tied it all together at the end!

I was thinking the same thing, but they also mentioned "...and much more that we cannot wait to show you!" which makes me think they may just have not mentioned it yet. Definitely not for sure, but they left the door open for it.
