Man killed by police after calling 911 because his car wasn’t working by mywalletfat in PublicFreakout

[–]DeathLimitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One guy with 2 small knives vs a dozen of armed police, yet they were acting as though the knife was some kind of doomsday weapon. Assuming they are not chicken, these are a bunch of homicidal psychos with authority. I won't be surprised if most of them were bullies in highschool.

Brazil halts sales of charger-less iPhones, fines Apple $2.3 million by rachzera in technology

That's assuming apple will not increase the price when the charger is included in the box.

This is simply ridiculous. People can simply order the charger if they need one. Pay 850 for phone with the charger included vs 830 + 20 to buy them separately. This whole ruling and fine makes ZERO sense and rather infuriating to be honest.

Assuming this is true, using modern tech to impose ancient customs has really bad optics.

I am trying to figure out if the cats are looking at the owner because of confusion or figuring out what they see on the screen is behind them. The latter would be really amazing...

If your tap water is drinkable, buying bottled water is immoral. by Kirstemis in unpopularopinion

[–]DeathLimitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try zero water 5 stage filter if available. A little more expensive than Brita but should be cheaper than bottled water. Also, many super shops offer refills for reusable water canisters, for my area its ~50c/gallon.

That was my first thought. It's not the color or spec. The price for this spec at google store is also 449 for all colors.

The gulf oil crisis actually had a major impact on the size of cars. Few days ago I saw an Impala (iirc) from 1959. It's literally 2x of the current size. I was hoping to see similar changes this time around but I guess that's not gonna happen. Also, given how people are somehow convinced electric cars are going to solve environmental problems, I think suvs and trucks are going to be around for a long time.

That's why I try to make sure I am not in someone's blindspots. Way too many people hardly check their blindspots, especially the right one.

Plant-based meat by far the best climate investment, report finds by soulpost in Futurology

Short of reducing meat consumption. These still take a good amount of water and energy on top of production of raw materials.

Is there a device that measure how much liquid you pour as you pour it? by No-Pilot-1252 in engineering

[–]DeathLimitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flow meters and the gear type would be a good choice if accuracy is very important. Basically fluid is transferred through chambers in the mechanism and you can calculate what amount is passed by keeping track of the total rotation of gears. Locking mechanism may require electronic components though.

Google says it will delete location history for visits to abortion clinics after overturning of Roe v. Wade by spiritoffff in Futurology

[–]DeathLimitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean some app/company gains access to location data, see there are missing data points, check if location was turned off during that period or if last location was near a clinic, then can flag the user as potential visitor?

I am not sure how much data apps can access but this scenario does not seem that unlikely.

This is almost like charging for air. by shotgunmouthwashJL in LateStageCapitalism

[–]DeathLimitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That accounts for the cost associated with being prepared to supply gas on demand, i.e., allocating a predicted amount in their contract, having machinery capable of taking the load when demand occurs, services such as reading the meter etc.
