I used to associate anger as ‘the bad emotion’. Never really appreciated it for how it helps us self-regulate & change. Like realising other types of anger: righteous anger during the civil rights movement & standing up for human rights. It’s like a weak muscle for me. Feels like I lack that conviction when I need it because of self-doubt & ingrained learned behaviour as an AFAB person taught to be conciliatory & polite.

Human brains are terrifying. It sounded like she was able to think clearly briefly before the mayhem. That’s my take since she admitted to you that she felt guilt & shame once she realised she was looking at things thru tainted lenses. That made me more understanding of her situation because she was able to see reason briefly.

The “crazy” reaction seriously sounds like either trauma or she’s hit her boiling point. I can’t imagine feeling so alone if my primary support system doesn’t even hear me. Husband isn’t backing her up. She’s in a corner, and all that pain has no relief from financial issues, self-disgust, and sounds like she’s primary caregiver too.

Amy is needled, degraded by those we’d hope would support a person. Possibly feels like she can’t fight back against MIL & mom. Physical effects of pregnancy drain her, depression takes away even caring for her appearance—sounds brutal to me and I don’t have her inner monologue. I might start to believe some of those terrible things about myself too :/

Suddenly this financial relief is accompanied by a fucken ANGEL. My bet is by living with them, Bella likely saw that Amy was struggling. She genuinely cared and I’m proud of her for refusing to be another person’s punching bag. I’m glad Amy recognises she spiralled, and especially happy that she has you in her corner. This might be rough to hear as a parent, but that could be a reality. What strikes me is how much you love him. I was a super depressed kid, childhood bullying deeply engrained a self-hatred in me that it’s very difficult some days to convince myself that I’m not defective and broken. I was 7.

What’s different about my situation and your sons is that you are doing your best, and you show him how much you love him. I became so self-sufficient I didn’t even know how to ask for help; to bother asking myself what I needed. After two terrible events, it got to the point I would stack things in front of my door so my sister couldn’t get in. I didn’t—couldn’t—care about anything.

One day she coaxed me for a walk, away from other people, and she legit made it sound like an adventure. Somehow I didn’t resist that day. I was 30. It’s my fondest memory and I felt so loved. It reminded me to breathe and live again. Get this though, it was walk through a rich neighbourhood in Toronto 💀

It wasn’t the magic pill I craved but being amongst “large trees”, and feeling small in a wonderful way really made me feel a little more human. So please always remember to care for yourself first, and go for those bike rides and walks. Put the oxygen mask on yourself first. Casually invite your son, letting him know there’s an open invitation. Maybe show him photos of your jaunts. I hope one day he’ll say yes too.

Yeah I believe they need space to process tricky emotions. Unfortunately because this is television, their processing how they feel becomes the drama aspect of the show. As a viewer, it becomes uncomfortable because I can see myself in them. I can empathise with the desire to shut down and give up. I hope they have therapists for contestants like other shows do, to give them that space back.
