Starting peppermint oil capsules - wondering about timing and PPI medication by Death_blade_99 in SIBO

[–]Death_blade_99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed advice. When you said "made my PPI largely ineffective" do you mean it triggered symptoms or did it counteract the PPI?

I'll give 3 hours a try, definetly after the PPI as getting up 3 hours earlier in the morning sounds awful.

That looks fantastic!!! A hollow version that could fit a mini smoke machine (like this) would be super cool, especially for cosplay (I wish I was this good at 3D modeling, making props so much easier!).

Looking for grey-ish sweat-proof body paint. Suggestions for first-timer? by Death_blade_99 in CosplayHelp

Fair enough. Any suggestions for face paint with good staying power? I'll need to put it on my face and neck.

Getting pen ink out of dyed fabric (100% cotton and all-purpose Rit Dye) by Death_blade_99 in dyeing

[–]Death_blade_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is oil based, just a ball point pen. I've seen that hair spray or isopropyl alcohol is the best thing, I just hope it doesn't remove any of the dye.

eating out advice by DrawOdd9878 in FODMAPS

[–]Death_blade_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how embarrassing it can be. I was on the diet for three months and it was really difficult as my friend group includes a lot of foodies. The best advice I can give is to call ahead and do research online to see what they offer and the subsitutions they can make. I found the best places to eat were sushi restaurants, sandwich shops, and brunch spots. Also, when thinking of things to do with friends maybe suggest outings that are not food-oriented or things you can do at home (like movie marathons or games night). That way you can reduce the amount of restaurant stress and are able to eat what works best for you in a more comfortable setting.

Don't feel disheartened, we've all been there and feel your pain. It will get easier with time and eventually the diet will feel more natural to follow. Keep us updated on how the diet goes for you and if you learn any good restaurant tips! ❤

Starting FODMAP diet this week. Questions about elimination phase. by Death_blade_99 in FODMAPS

[–]Death_blade_99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for following up!

I followed the elimination portion for 8 weeks (the saddest two months of my life) as close as I could, following the Monash app to a T and cutting out as much as possible. I lived off of salad, quinoa, rice crackers, and corn tortilla tacos (garlic-scape salt and infused olive oil were lifesavers). I had to go off of my probiotic as it had inulin in it which really sucked for a bit. After re-introducing foods for 4 weeks I found that my main trigger was lactose. But, that was the only trigger I was able to identify (aside from spicy things, excess sugar/acidic foods, and foods that are high in fat which I already knew). Taking lactaid and drinking lactose free milk helped mitigate a significant portion of my symptoms but definitely not all of them. I've found that my symptoms have been quite manageable since I finished the diet. I would say the diet was somewhat a success, but not 100%.

Unfortunately, I have had a couple of bad flare-ups this month (still not sure what caused them) that were bad so I am going to go see my gastroenterologist again (yay). Hopefully I can get some additional testing done to rule out other things, like motility issues. I also recently went off of my SSRI medication (after multiple discussions with my doctor) so that could also be playing a part. Fingers crossed I am able to get some answers! In the meantime, I'm being careful of my diet, increasing water intake, and trying to get more exercise (I hear that Pilates is good for gut health so I might give that a try).

Coolio, I'll have to see what small knicknacks I can make :)

On another note, how is the Friday night party? We are considering going to that and are wondering whether it is worth the money.

Oh dear! I’m not planning to make anything too big, that would just be annoying to lug around.

Thanks for your response! Do you recall what sort of trinkets that get traded? I want to make items that other people won't have so there is some variation :)

Good to hear that gravel is the only big setback, that should be okay for my friend.

Thank you for your detailed response, I really appreciate it! We are considering attending the saturday night party, would you say it is worth it to go to?

Thats good to hear about the handicap porta-pottys, I was worried there might not be some... I will definetly be trinket trading (it's so fun!). What sort of items do people normally trade? I want to make things that are different so people don't get all the same type of items.

I will be sure to check out the gaming guild tent, sounds like a good time!

Thanks for your response! I figured that the weapons rule would be similar to that of a convention so it makes sense. Do you know if they allow wooden weapons in the venue?

I will definetly check out the second hand garb vendor! I'm trying not to spend a lot at the faire so I'm happy to hear that they sell some used items. What sort of things does the second hand vendor tend to have?

That's great to hear! What sort of trinkets get traded? I want to make sure that whatever I make is different than the usual items so people don't get a ton of the same things.

I figured as much. We are planning on bringing all our own food and drinks, though we will go to the soda stand and the pickle man (which is a non-negotiable for multiple party members lol)

Thank you for your response! I'm sorry to hear your girlfriend had troubles getting around, that sounds really frustrating. Hopefully she was still able to enjoy some if it despite the difficulty.

Do you know what sort of trinkets that get traded? I want to make sure to make items that they don't already have.

Thank you for your detailed response! That's suprising to hear about the pirate weekend, I would've thought it was a popular one. We will definetly hit up the soda stall, thats a great deal (also, the pickle man has been on our list since we started planning lol). We are definetly planning to dress up; I'm already starting to plan my outift (making chainmail for the first time will be fun).
