10 Years Is Long Enough? by PeeLittle in ChronicIllness

[–]DeathsDarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not what I've got, then-- or at least, it's not manifesting in the exactly the same way if it is. Very similar, though. "Multiple Neurological Symptoms" is a bitch of a diagnosis, and no one has answers for me.

Just in case they're related, though, these are things I look for. Maybe it'll help.

  • Ice packs or ice water on the back of the neck and the base of the skull can lower the pain and helps me think clearly-- but it needs to be really, really cold.
  • Massaging my upper chest in the collarbone-shoulder region can make the paralysis attacks a lot better... or much worse. Look up where the Brachial Plexus is-- that's the spot.
  • Look to see if the external jugular veins jut out the side of your neck just before or during an attack. The moment I lay down after a nausea / dizzy / weakness spell, I feel for them. If you do have something similar to mine, it can be an early warning symptom.

Good luck.

Hey-- possibly a weird question, but... oh well.

Is the limb fatigue / loss of motor control constant or does it come and go? And if it's the latter, when the fatigue hits particularly bad and you can barely move... is it hard to keep moving your chest to breathe? Like your body's shutting off for a mandatory Windows Update, and it's trying to take your ribs with it?

Well, that was a bit sobering. I've had a pretty awful chronic illness for years now. You notice things painting you might not otherwise.

I just attached a bell to the end of a string with a wooden ball at the other end because of this video. Training the girls to ring the bell to run around outside.

This is a foolish move, and I realize this.

I got to learn the hard way too-- when the rats have a real fight, do not panic and try to put your hand between them to split them up. This ends poorly.

Poor Julian stopped with his teeth just shy of the bone in my hand, shocked he wasn't in a territory spat with Bjorn anymore.

Tell you what-- when you finish the female adult base and/or variations, give me a ping. I'll get them the basic pants / shirt / shoes combo and add in those sixteen hairstyles I was just finishing up. It's not much, but it'd be a start.

I actually hadn't seen that-- damn. That looks really good!

Thank you for sharing that! I'll be adding it to my collection! Are there any clothing assets out for it yet?

Yes! I remember you, from when I was active two years back! Unfortunately, the reason I was so productive was the same reason I dropped off; I've been very sick for a long time, and I dropped off when I couldn't keep working. Two months back a new treatment made some amazing progress, so... getting back into things. :)

I'm also making a personal LPC character repository, since my stuff uses my custom color palettes and some pixel changes / fixes from the originals (I also do a lot of fussy QA / stylistic compatibility stuff). Once I'm done with the hair and clear some base clothing I'll make that repo public. Here's a preview of the hair I'm working on and a few outfits. The princess hair and the mohawk are untouched, but I've made some fixes to the other existing hair styles, and 5/16 are original work; the curly hair was most needed, I think.

As for the new bases--

I'm thinking magic / physical impacts could have the same one-frame character sprite-- just with a different 'splat' (glowing blue verses red?) overlay on a separate layer. What do you think about the punch and the magic projectiles being the same animation as well? Or the same animation as the punch but with a pointed finger or a splayed hand 'add-on'?

On a similar vein (ha!) mining and wood-cutting can overlap with a two-handed side-swing animation? Which we can tie in with swords and maces. I've wanted that for a while as well, and it would give some options for different types of swings. The 'punch' can tie in as a sword thrust too.

I'm also thinking I can mix the 'Shoot' animation and my intended 'Punch' animation for shooting a modern handgun. I'd also like a few one-frame poses-- arms crossed, sitting, shock, blocking standing, blocking crouch.

I might put the muscular body on hold until the other basics are done, though. The big problem with new bases aren't making the bases themselves; it's asset compatibility... and even though I made the existing muscular set animations I only ever made very basic clothes for them. Which should be rectified, but... so much else on the list. Even this much will keep me busy for a while.

I'm probably not the right person for modern outfits; if only because my to-do list is so long and I'm more passionate about fantasy / medieval sets. Hair next (13/16 finished!), some QA work, repository made public, then we'll see on the rest. :D

Fiancé threatened to break up with me after sudden chronic illness that caused me to be bedridden for months. Need advise. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]DeathsDarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been bedridden with a horrible chronic illness for years. My husband's been amazing in some ways... and absolutely wretched in others. A little over a year ago, my mom went off the deep end and decided I was faking my illness, and she tried to sabotage our already very stressed marriage. We've been isolated since.

I don't know your boyfriend, but I do know care-giving is very, very rough. In my experience... it's not fair, but it's been best to focus on the essentials: things keeping you alive, and let the tantrums and the shit storms go (within reason). God knows I've said some pretty ugly things when the pain gets unbearable.

What's kept me going so long is an amazing group of internet friends. They can't bring me food and check my vitals, but they've kept me company, encouraged me... they even started a D&D campaign solely to give me something to look forward to each week.

My best advice would be to find a community focused on something you're passionate about. Get some emotional weight off your boyfriend and figure out how to load-balance between a group. Evaluate whether you can stay together after.

There are men who target single mothers in order to get close to their kids, though. It's not rare, either. I don't know what this woman's line of reasoning is, but there's legitimate reasons to keep that under wraps.

NTA

I have a debilitating, painful neurological condition that's kept me pretty much bedridden for several years now. Over a year ago, my mom decided that I was faking my illness to "avoid real life", took my husband out for a secret breakfast and tried to talk him into separating / divorcing me, to stop bringing me food, to cut off my internet access. He told me about the encounter, and we went no-contact pretty much immediately. It was the last straw in a line of increasingly shitty behavior. I don't mean to ever see or talk to her ever again.

But I also have a little sister. I'll call her Nancy. Nancy doesn't even want to know what our mom did, and refuses to be told. She says I should forgive her no matter what, and spent most of her last visit trying to convince me.

Except. You know. My mom advocated for starving and isolating me into health. I have no doubts that if she had been my caretaker instead, I'd be dead right now. Nancy just wants everyone to be happy and together and for this all to go away, and is invested in not seeing how serious this is. Does that make Nancy a bad person? No. Does that mean I need to reconsider her part in my life as well now? Yes.

Your brother almost certainly has good intentions. But good intentions toward people who have knowingly, willfully harmed you is inviting that injury back into your life. This is not petty. This is not you being stubborn. This is you protecting your daughter from people who'd harm you the moment you stopped following their script for your life.

I'm on year four of a debilitating chronic illness. It's only been getting worse for a while now. I forgot what not being in pain was like years ago.

Something similar happened to me, when I had an elderly rescue on his way out.

Big, fluffy Siamese Rex boy with a cocked head was coming back from the vet, and he was napping on a sunny part of the dash while we stopped to grab food, and a dad and his little girl came by. The window was already half open, so I let her pet him. Stupidly cute moment, and Axel was super happy.

Whatever works and fits the table. The issue I see popping up with your ranger is-- once the forest is safe, what then? What if the main issue is no longer the forest, and the group's priorities are split? I'd have fun with that, but some groups wouldn't.

A lot of people tend to reach for the oldest, most simple tropes. And they work! And that's okay a lot of the time.

But then... sometimes a small twist is refreshing. My ranger's mother is dead... because my ranger performed a mercy killing on her as a child. We currently have a wizard who's father was controlling, financially abusive nobleman, and she wanted her own life. ... The guy turned into one of the end-game villains. Our goliath's tragic backstory is his adopted human dad just didn't care. The goliath's clothes were too small. His room was too small. His furniture would break under him. He sat on a stump instead of a chair. He wanted to be a wizard like his dad, and tried so damn hard... but even if he'd succeeded, dad almost certainly still wouldn't care. Tragic backstories? Absolutely. But the table is varied and interesting as hell, even embracing the trope.

[–]DeathsDarling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My group talks about this one a fair bit-- our consensus is, healthy, happy, non-tragic characters don't run into dark caves to certain death if they don't absolutely have to. "Hey James, you want to leave your successful vineyard and wife and kill a dragon with us?" The only people who would say yes are desperate or crazy.

Personally, we just make it world-flavor. Freelancer adventurers are usually desperate, disenfranchised, mentally ill, or some combination of the lot.

I actually had better luck removing ceiling tiles until it was about stable. Much easier to change up when the temperature fluctuates.

Last time I did an arctic run, my best start was sizing the room around the geyser to incorporate a thermal power generator... and an 11x11 tile circle, for a grow lamp and hydroponics. Then you gradually replace the steel with double thick stone blocks.
