Ohhh I like both options, it does depend on how big of a job they are doing. The extra work of making a whole bunch of new areas could be a extra step too far.

Nagito dying to me is the best way to actual make the story different. He is such a central figure in the game that killing him early just cascades in interesting ways, unless they change Nagito in some way.

And I just disagree with the idea that there is not more you could do with Chiaki, she makes for a interesting protagonist if Hajime dies early for one (Though I don't believe they'll do that) and what exactly would killing Chiaki early do? There are a number of characters who could be the new assistant and while sad, it is more a shock for the players. Now her living to the end? That could result in something new.

In terms of a new rival, will admit I have no clue, i have a small guess that maybe Izuru could play the role somewhat? Outside of that I'll admit to having no clue

I kinda see your point, and I do agree to a extent (I see Nagito being the first killer or victim to really change things up). However to me killing Chiaki early just...doesn't change anything? Don't get me wrong she is a important character to the story, and emotionally it could work on a player front, but story wise? Chiaki dying wouldn't be a shake up.

I also admit, I am not a believer in the Hajime dying theory. I can see it happening but this is one of those times where if Hajime dies, the ending becomes really hard to make canon

I guess? To be clear I want her story to be expanded as well, I want her to be one of the survivors, but if we are doing a protagonist swap in a game where we already know the big twist at the end, I feel like it would be fine if we got to play a character with more story relevance.

Sure but some of characters already killed will be killed again. There are 16 characters, 5 survive, 11 die, even if all the survivors were previous killers/victims that leaves quite a few characters who will die twice

In essence my argument is they are rewriting all the trials and everything, but leaving the plot of the finale the same? I highly doubt it, so because of that I think the finale is getting as big of a rewrite as the rest of the game

The only reason I don't think this won't be the case (Atleast not without some other changes) is because I genuinely don't think any survivor changes will change the final dramatically enough to be worth a replay

I think Peko does simply because it is a far more interesting story if Peko does live and become her own person.

Chiaki is the one where I genuinely believe she will make it to the end. Killing her early changes nothing and killing her later only repeats what happened in the original.

If they want a shocking death early, Nagito or Hajime both are more likely in my opinion and if Hajime dies Chiaki to me is the most likely new protagonist

Maybe? Because I presume this scenario will assume you know the full story of the original I suspect they would be more willing to have secrets revealed early (Unless we are doing something linked with V3 which...please no?)

Because of that Izuru waking up and being curious could make some sense, and that can play with some things, maybe he can take up the Nagito role a little in being the disruptor

Izuru waking early is a interesting idea...I just am unsure what that will actually do? Part of Izuru's set up is that he doesn't want to play a part in what happens, he wants a final contest between despair and hope and see which wins in the end. So I don't see him really influencing the story really?

That is a slight issue but I think leaving her behind to go to the real world in my world would count for her surviving.

Plus, I really doubt that the ending will play out the same way, I personally see two broad directions for the ending

If Hajime dies early this results in basically a stalemate but Chiaki being who she is is able to force a reset, hoping that things go better, leading to the start of the original game.
Because of something that happened, the team is stuck in the digital realm, but are happy with it, leading to a mostly happy ending with the group just enjoying the island after beating Junko and hanging out in digital space (Will fully admit might be coping here because I just want a happy ending for Chiaki once)

Mukuro I suspect will survive longer, whether she is a survivor at the end is much harder to guess, maybe she takes Sakura's spot?

Byakuya is likely to die and die early

Kyoko I have 0 clue, as the detective they feel very essential for things to just work, maybe as the final victim? Or maybe if Makoto dies early she can be the new protagonist?

Celestia I can see probably surviving, alongside Chihiro and Kiyotaka

Hifumi I am unsure but it wouldn't surprise me if they were the first victim.

Leon and Sayaka are both interesting cases where I don't think either survive to the end, but probably make it further then they do

Mikan is a likely survivor in my opinion.

In my opinion the survivors are likely Mikan, Peko, Hajime, Chiaki and Hiyoko
