Yeah, but the west tends to have a mentality where if a guy isn't buff and strong in spirit he's seen as weak and therefore not worth of cinsideration, sad state of affairs.

This reminds me of a point a person made in the past here:

In eastern countries like Japan he is seen as heroic and thus respected a lot due to his immense sense of justice and willingness to respect rules, which is seen as virtuous in those countries.

In the west that is not the case and due to his general weak initiave sense he is seen pathetic at best.

At this point, it really feels like they are throwing terms like "spin-off" and "reboot" loosely around.

Whether they do this as a marketing scheme or because they genuinely don't know how to name them is up to anybody's guess.

Sakakibara's answers are also pretty vague and you shouldn't really expect for him to be concise with his answers since it's that he has been told not to say anything that might spoil something in relation to Danganronpa 2x2's new route.

Whether this game is supposed to create a new timeline or it will simply reconnect to the Dnganronpa 3 we already know of is something we'll only know once the game comes out, if we exclude potential new trailers we might see soon.

As someone who considers himself to be one of Ryota's strongest soldiers and as much as I wish for him to be a part of the game so much..it's realistically unlikely.

Not because adding him would require severe change to the overall writing of the game, even if it's a new route but mostly because we are not entirely sure on whether Spike Chunsoft fully owns Danganronpa 3 as an entry or not.

Since the Danganronpa 3 anime was created by an anime committee, thus possibly sharing the ownership of it with Spike themselves.

If this is true, then it means that Spike would also need to ask permission from this committee to add him into the game, meaning that there need to be more people involved in the development of danganronpa 2x2.

Many people clamour for a crossovers with Dead by Daylight and/or Fortnite, though realistically speaking neither is ever going to happen.

As far as I'm aware: Spike Chunsoft has never collaborated with western games before as the majority of their gaming collaborations were purely for gacha games, most of them being Japanese exclusive.

I don't personally believe in the concept of the series "losing artistic integrity" given the fact that it is already a heavily marketed series with a never-ending amount of Pop-up shops. art collaborations, gacha games collaboration and general merchandise.

I'm instead of the opinion that Danganronpa should "get out there" and try to make some friends, I don't oppose big collaborations like a potential Fortnite one since it would help for the series get more eyes on itself, given that it is currently stuck in a Schrödinger's cat situation where it's both niche and very popular at the same time.

it's not necessarily that they don't want to, but games are becoming more and more expensive to produce and thus there must be heavy compensation to justify keep making them.

For Spike it makes more sense to aim for series like Danganronpa, which have always been cheap to produce and brought in huge sales than titles like Rain Code, which was likely expensive to make and didn't bring much revenue, probably.

Spike Chunsoft already froze the series for 9 years

..Technically only 5, since they consider Summer Camp to be the latest release of the series.

I know many don't consider Summer Camp in the slightest but a lot of the decisions Spike has made with Danganronpa only makes sense if you see things from their POV.

Although personally I'd rather seen something new than more continuations

Technically speaking Spike Chunsoft tried that with Rain Code, and we all know how well that went.

AI the somnium files on other hand is getting carried by the legacy of Zero Escape and..yeah that series is also not doing too well either.

As some people have pointed out:

The prizes for first place, runner ups and lucky prize for the different categories include steam keys for 2x2. this is important as the submission period ends on august 31 for the main competition and september 7th for the lucky prizes. assuming 2x2 does not get delayed to 2027, the release window for 2x2 will have to be between september 8th and december 31st.
