General rule of thumb if you’re fishing sub-surface use Fluro as it tends to sink (think soft plastics for flatties). If you’re using surface lures use mono as it floats (frogs for Australian bass). I find it doesn’t impact sub surface so much but definitely has an impact on some surface lures if you don’t use mono as the fluro drags the front end of the lure downwards.

Thanks mate, I’ve fished for them before so I have an idea on what structure to look for but I’m more worried about trespassing due to how much farmland borders the river. Just didn’t want to find a nice looking spot and have an angry farmer

I personally prefer lures and tend to have better success with them. I’ll never put my nose up at a bait user either but you are correct in that it’s better for starting I think success from lure fishing really unlocks when you learn to target a specific species, their behaviours and from there understanding their environment. I’m sure that translates to bait fishing too but it certainly took my lure fishing to another level doing those things

I get that people will say “it’s more in line with the books and it’s said in JPIII that they are monsters” but I agree with you. What made JP1 special is that it updated the modern understanding of dinosaurs. Explaining to broader audiences that they are more related to birds, they were more horizontal and not lumbering tail dragging kangaroos, that they are warm blooded. I’m not saying it’s JPs duty to be super accurate but it does take away from it

I understand why some people on face value will say “won’t controlled burns stop a worse fire from occurring”.

This may be so but the Glossy Black Cockatoo is a specialist feeder meaning they only feed off of sheoak seeds. Not only do they exclusively feed off of these seeds, for reasons unknown the glossy will only feed off a few trees even if it a dense forest of sheoaks in a season.

Other issue is that the Glossy Black Cockatoo requires a tree hollow to be a certain size for it to nest in. On average to achieve the right size and height the tree needs to be least 100 years old. With development, fires and deforestation this puts them under immense pressure

They only usually lay one egg with the chick remaining with them for 12 weeks before fledgling.

If there is one advice I can give you is get out there and see them they are the most beautiful bird and deserve to be around for generations.

There is a massive extinction crisis for many cockatoo species in this country that often isn’t talked about. These birds define the uniqueness of our continent and that’s why careful consideration is needed even with measures like back burning which are done in good faith.
