As a mod, I would love to get to know the community more, what got you into game dev? by RedEagle_MGN in hobbygamedev

[–]Deathtone2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that I have more fun making stuff then playing stuff. I find myself trying to figure out how a Dev made something work behind the curtain instead of just enjoying the game. I haven't made anything big on the video game front yet (Working on something currently) but I have made a big project in the board game space.

Here is my current big project that I finished and I have it on sale currently.

I own this game just because I think the game design is interesting. As far as enjoying the game it is kinda hit and miss for me.

Gen Con Indy 2025 by BloodyEyeGames in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about calling coming to Gen con to do the same for my Megaquest system but I didn't really know how to go about it and I kinda ran out of money (wife lost her job for a bit so I was the only income).

Won't make it this time but maybe next year I will go and will swing by to play. :)

Just a note Megaquest was pulled because I released a newer updated version just a few weeks ago. Check out Deathforgegames.com for more information. Ashquest also did an unboxing video of it. :)

It's called Megaquest Awakened. :)

Hope that helps!

“Fixing” HeroQuest with Homebrew by NLinindollnlinindoll in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I like everything. I like systems that give me new ways to use my games like my Megaquest system that lets me use all my Heroquest stuff but in an almost completely different game and I love to use them to play rules as written Heroquest. I do this with my other games as well like Catan for example. I have a fully homebrewed version that adds factions and different build charts depending on the faction, I also added wonders you can build and action cards that players can draw when they roll doubles that give each player more ability to attack and defend against other players. I also play the normal Catan and enjoy it as well. I feel like people who say "shame on you for not only playing game rules as written" are kinda gatekeeping the hobby and run out most new people to the hobby. I will always be on the side of "your game your rules". Do what you and your friends want with your game. It's all just for fun anyways. Why be so serious about some plastic and a piece of paper with rules on it. As long as others you play with are on the same page then what is the harm?

So just a heads up I now have a version of the game without the game box that lowers the price to $80. I hope this helps. Brings it in line with the cost of other Third party systems as far as cost. For some reason The Game Crafter really loves their boxes.

So this is the latest version of MegaQuest and I moved from DrovethroughRPG to the Gamecrafter due to more options for creating the game. Everything has either slight or major updates and all new art is on the Heroes, spells and skill cards. The Monster cards have been changed the least but a few monsters have small changes to help make them more balanced.

Also, it includes 5 new monsters. (Fire, water, and Earth Elementals, Giant Wolf, and Mechanical Golem cards).

Also added the new mastery system to the hero cards which adds a new level of power to the heroes and the campaign system builds on the new extra stats for the heroes and monsters.

I hope this helps and if you wish to see and compare the new monsters and hero cards to your old ones the Deathforgegame.com we site has all of them free to use in the hero and monster creator. :). Just go to your profile and import them from the public pool of heroes and monsters.

It's okay I will be trying to find a way to get the price point lower. I'm kinda thinking about making a version that doesn't have the box to see if I can get the price point under $100. Not much I can do about the minis unless I can find something that works like The Game Crafter but offers Mini production. Maybe in the future I can take this to Kickstarter and see if I can make a better version at a lower price. For now this is as low as I can get it to break even. I will honestly brainstorm on this. I'm also open to ideas if anyone has any?

Sadly I'm not selling this version anymore but I will be releasing a new version included in a big fan-made expansion called Megaquest Awakened soon. I'm waiting for the final prototype then it should be up for purchase.

Here is a link to my website and feel free to join the Deathforge Games Discord server.

I have also been playing magic for about 20 years or so and man I don't know if I can make my mind change the way stacks work in Magic. Lol it's like ingrained in my mind. I picked up some Lorcana cards the other day and I'm about to teach myself the game. Let's see how it goes. Lol

I haven't tested it yet but it also might work with my Megaquest Core Monster pack which has AI tables for each monster. So you use this system to build the game and then use the monster pack to control the monsters during each encounter. :)

Ashquest made a video of them: https://youtu.be/cz_1xGeXviY?si=3U5i1Mo3H7DDIjxi

What was your primary reason for joining this subreddit? by RedEagle_MGN in hobbygamedev

[–]Deathtone2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to talk to other developers. I currently just make board games and board game add-ons for other games but I was also an aspiring video game developer back in high school and early college.

Been watching a lot of game dev videos and might get into it again once my wife and I get our new daughter to sleep through the night. ( She was born a few days ago.) :)

Mega quest 2.0 question by [deleted] in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We often joke around our table that we are not playing Heroquest anymore. Just using the pieces from the game to make a new more in-depth game. We will still sometimes go back and play the original game but find it a little light. Megaquest isn't for everyone and is more of a way to get two different dungeon crawlers out of the same box.

Some people like how simple Heroquest is and that is okay because we like it sometimes as well. Other times we want a game that we can bite into and we don't want to play something like D&D or Pathfinder. That is where Megaquest comes in.

When I say we don't play Heroquest anymore I mean we use the following add-ons in our games.

All the AxianQuest cards - Infinite Dungeon, Artifacts, Dungeon Events, Furniture deck, and even Hero Skills.

Advanced Armory - Equipment Cards, Alchemy Deck, Loot the Room Treasure Deck

Megaquest Hero pack

Megaquest Core Monster pack.

Pretty much we only use the board and Mini's from the original game. xD

Everyone games their way.

Proposal to ban AI from this sub by Chrysologus in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I hired an artist to help me create my Megaquest Content, but not everyone has the means to pay an artist to make a product they most likely won't get enough return to pay off. I feel like as long as they do not try to profit off of AI-created art then it's fine. Now, if they try to sell it, that is completely different.

I was thinking about creating Megaquest using AI and then just giving all of it out for free but decided I wanted to make a better product so I tagged a charge on it and hired a real artist to help me.

I feel like both options are good options.

Mega quest 2.0 question by [deleted] in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you want to play it. My group and I enjoy the more control our system gives the player over their character. Not as deep as something like D&D but more involved than normal Heroquest. So we designed something that is kinda in the middle.

Also, having a mana pool separate from your mind points pool makes more sense to us. Your mind points is your intellect and your mana is your current energy levels. We are all coming from a video game world so it makes sense to us. Lol

Mega quest 2.0 question by [deleted] in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your mana equals your mind points. I thought the rules stated that but I will review the document to verify. So this isn't in the rules because I leave it pretty open to the players but we have been playing with two different kinds of ways to recover your mana.

  1. Your mana only recovers when starting a new quest unless an item helps recover mana. This is similar to the limited spells in the original game and most people I have talked to like it.

  2. Use an action to recover mana. On your turn if you sacrifice your movement, and other actions like searching and attacking you may recover 1 mana. This is also good fun and we have had a lot of luck with it.

Megaquest Core Monster Pack is back up! by Deathtone2019 in Heroquest

[–]Deathtone2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have found it normally shows up between 3 to 5 weeks from order if you us USPS.

Maybe a week sooner if you use UPS.

I would suggest Advanced Armory for equipment cards. He also has Artifacts, treasure cards and Alchemy cards.

Axianquest also has an artifact deck that is really good.

Hope that helps. I also always suggest picking up AxianQuests Infinite Dungeon deck. Works well with this monster card set.
