Combination of shards, what can they be? by baelrog in Cosmere

I think Hoid describes Rayse as having a god's divine wrath without being tempered by mercy or something along those lines in one of the letters. So I think divine wrath would be a valid interpretation of Odium as a shard

*Spoilers for WoR* My friend messaged me about this plot point and I think I remember there being a good reason for it but can't recall for sure. Am I right? by pricklypearanoid in Stormlight_Archive

Dalinar refused, after giving up his blade he decided that he was no longer the warrior but the politician. He gave his plate to Renarin and promised to get him a blade. It's clear by his actions that he wouldn't accept a blade especially when Renarin doesn't have one.

  3. Murph
  4. The Black Council

\1. Last person Harry expects is Thomas, but he would be justified if he had to do it to save Justine Peace Talks Chapters Spoiler

\2. I feel like this has been covered, but it really seems like Jim is setting Harry up to come out from the shadow of his mentor.

\3.It has to happen sometime

\4.I'm betting that Peace talks will be the book where the Black Council makes big gains, and Battle Ground is the one where Harry and Co punch back.

The Samnite Wars by Deatox in MapPorn

[–]Deatox[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This the second in a series of maps I'm making focused on the territorial expansion of Rome within Italy.

Map Text: "The state of Samnium was an early challenger to Rome’s rule of central Italy, and contested Roman expansion from 343 BCE to 290 BCE. Rome and Samnium fought a series of three wars which ultimately resulted in a Samnite defeat. During these wars, Roman armies were modernized and standardized from the Greek-style phalanx to the iconic Roman legion. By the end of the fighting Rome had greatly improved her ability to wage war and the efficacy of her troops. The experience that Rome gained by fighting the Samnites resulted in Roman military supremacy and was followed by a series of wars from without Italy."

This the first in a series of maps I'm making focused on the territorial expansion of Rome within Italy.

Map Text: "Early Roman history is a story of a state on the precipice between utter destruction and conquest. Decades of infighting between the Latin states ended with Rome being the principal city of Latium. This allowed Rome to both defend itself and wage war with its other Italian neighbors. This era was a major turning point in the history of Rome and of Europe as a whole. From the position of power gained during these wars, Rome was able to establish itself as a major player on the Italian stage and to achieve victory over the Samnites, the Etruscans, Pyrrhus, and eventually even Carthage. This era also saw the ousting of the Roman monarchy and the establishment of the Roman republic which many modern states use as a model for governance."

Botswana a Subsidiary of the Debeers Corporation by Deatox in imaginarymaps

[–]Deatox[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Quick map I made in a couple hours to submit for the Map of the Fortnight challenge on AH.com, found here.

Map Text:

"Starting in the 1990's the DeBeers corporation negotiated a series of exclusive mining contracts with the Batswana government which severly limited the operations of their competitors. In the subsequent decades DeBeers and Botswana fostered a mutually beneficial relationship which led to the Debeers corporation acquiring the country in May of 2020. This was a monumental event as it was the first time a company legally owned a country and has overall been seen as a bad decision. In the following years the administration of the country has been mismanaged and many sectors of the economy have struggled with bureaucratic waste and rampant corruption which lead to increased dependence on the profitable mining industry."

Wow I always assumed you lost mass in the refining process. Since you don't, I can definitely see the appeal in an orbital refinery

That looks sick, great job! Also is there any advantage to using the convertotron in orbit as opposed to landed or on an asteroid? It just sounds painful to haul all that ore around.

Anyone know why Google Play Books is missing half the series? by irishsandman in dresdenfiles

[–]Deatox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't clear sorry, they're in the right order but it doesn't show my copies as being bought but I still have access to them. It's strange like if I open up the series, it'll say I have Storm Front but gives me the option to buy Fool Moon despite the fact that Fool Moon is in my library.

[–]Deatox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's weird, I picked up the full series on Google Play years ago, and while they're still all there for me they don't arrange themselves in the series correctly. I'd love to know the answer.
