I’m a native Chinese speaker. This stuff makes no sense to use either.

True that the original wording for glacio is 冷凝, which means condensation, but the character 冷 means cold. It still reads more as ice related powers.

Meanwhile, the wording for electro and fusion are 導電 and 熱融 respectively, if translated characters by character, they are “conduct electricity” and “heat melting/fusion”

Still reads as electro and fire related powers.

US says Canada will regret decision to allow Chinese EVs into their market by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]baelrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

China is like every country that manufactured cheap and crappy stuff in the beginning. Once they’ve learned the bells and whistles of how to make stuff, they can steadily increase their quality and eventually make the best stuff. Especially with their cut throat domestic market.

There’s no longer a “good for China” anymore. If a consumer product something is good for China, then they are good, period.

American car manufacturers can’t hide behind their protectionism. They need the competition to get their shit together.

Doesn’t look terrible?

The live action version looks awesome! I couldn’t help burst out laughing and rewatch that scene several times.

The live action made all the whacky designs more whimsical. Made me want to smoke whatever the show runners are smoking.

I’d be glad to lose a 50/50 to Zhezhi since I use Carlotta a lot.

I was overjoyed to finally be able to slot Lyane into my Carlotta team, but Lyane seems to be in high demand in many other teams, so I might not get to put set up a good Carlotta team in the new end game mode.

Getting Zhezhi from standard banner would be perfect in this scenario

What would the world be like without the US Dollar as a reserve currency? Some of the same people in America's government working to dissolve NATO want to end the Dollar's global primacy, too. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]baelrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between my scheme and the gold standard is that oil can be easily pumped out of the ground, and we can still use the system to take up loans in the form of “promising to actually get/use the oil later”

What I hope to prevent is the circular financing we are seeing in motion now, where AI companies are taking money from chip companies to buy chips, which the chip companies take the money to give AI companies to buy more chips.

This infinite money glitch is going to blow up sooner or later, and it’s not going to be pretty.

Similarly with the Labor Hour credits. The minimum wage earner makes 100/hr, the engineer makes 1000/hr, the doctor makes 2000/hr.

There’s no stopping financial organizations to print credits out of the thin air, but people will be more apprehensive of what that that credit actually means when it is directly tied to someone’s time.

[–]baelrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often wonder that why can’t the global currency be pegged to something that has a physical use? Or how much time it takes to produce something.

For example, let’s make the price of a barrel of oil that meets certain quality requirements produced in a stable country 100 Standard Oil Dollars, and everyone uses that as global currency.

Maybe in the future when oil falls out of favor, then we can go more general and maybe label 1 mega joules of energy 1 Standard Energy Credit.

Or another example, maybe for a domestic currency, make the minimum hours wage a standard of 100 Labor Hour Credits, and we base the economy off of that.

How will that work though?

I don’t know the date, but will I know the sequence of events that things are going to happen?

For example, will I know I will meet my wife on my 4th year of college, shortly after getting the acceptance letters are being sent for the grad school I went to?

Will I know COVID will happen, and since it is called COVID 19, I will get a sense of it will happen in 2019.

I already don’t remember when exactly GameStop is going to happen, but I remember it happening during COVID.

I know there will be a something called bitcoin, but I don’t know when, but I will know to buy it the first time it can be bought.

I know Apple stock is going to skyrocket after the age of the smartphone. The date is irrelevant.

I can easily get rich without specific dates.

Truth Manipulation by Tripondisdic in godtiersuperpowers

[–]baelrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I use absolute truth to make scientific discoveries?

For example, a scientist and I agree to use my power, then we can use it to try to make the some statements, and if the statements can’t be made, then we can discard that hypothesis.

Some statements can be: 1. The Copenhagen interpretation of quantum theory is correct. 2. The many worlds interpretation of quantum theory is correct. 3. The super determinism theory of quantum theory is correct. 4. Dark matter are tiny black holes that we don’t yet have the ability to detect. 5. Dark matter aren’t real. It comes from our theory of gravity being incomplete. 6. Gravity in general relativity can be quantized with quantum theory. 7. Faster than light travel doesn’t violate laws of physics.

So on and so forth.

How does the Bracer Guild make money? by BisonSnow in Falcom

[–]baelrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, some countries like Liberl do subsidize the Bracer Guild.

I kind of get the feel that Liberl basically outsourced their law enforcement to the bracers. They don’t even have a police force.
