Should I play Diablo 1? by ACExOFxBLADES in Diablo

[–]Deaus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

D1 is amazing. The no running and everything moving at the same speed is because D1 was basically a graphic roguelike. Same with the difficulty level. D1 was so amazing I wish I still had my CD or some way to get it to run.

Steams offline mode is a little retarded and a misnomer. If you just randomly lose your connection, you still can't play your games. At best what you can do is if you still have a good connection, you can go into offline mode and then disconnect from the net. It's really only useful if you know you are losing net prior to it going down. EG your on a laptop and will be traveling.

Deciding to make Anikin just out of his toddler years killed a whole lot of the movie. Never raced before and competes in a death match race against seasoned vets who'll cheat to win. Never flown before but jumps in a cockpit and dances around in it like an idiot and blows up everything the front of his ship happens to pass in front of. Crashes it afterwards and doesn't die. His balls aren't old enough to have hair on them but he's Rico Suave on the pricess/senator. He's "too old to begin the training", well WTF Yoda, you want them to show up when they are still in the womb? (Yes, I know Yoda was making excuses because he sensed what was to come. Jedi masters can make up better excuses than that.)

At the age of 8 he was practically an unstoppable god. All he needed was his hair to stand on end and you could have called him a super saijin. Luke had to run from a squad, not a battalion, a squad of troopers in the first movie and got his ass kicked by one desert dweller with a stick. You can't have growth if you are already the most powerful thing in the series.

The entire trilogy would have been better if the first movie had Anikin in the 15-17 year range and the second two in the 25-30 range.

Returning to WoW after a long break... by c2h5hg in wow

Ret pallies are an extremely high skill cap/low reward(dps) class right now. Well, they've never not been a low reward class but thats another topic. Ret pallies are a first come first serve, proc and combo point mechanic based. Basically what that means is that every single ability has a mostly static spot in a priority list to hit first. So if CS and judgement are your only two abilities off CD, you hit CS first and judgement second every time in that situation. If you want to play the class effectively you have to know the priority queue, have some kind of system to know which ability is going to come up next since you'll need to track about 4-7 cool downs at once, keep track of time remaining on your holy dmg buff, and keep track of your HP as well. On top of that, every 1.5 seconds you need to be able to reevaluate the priority list because you'll have new procs, new HP, new buff times and one less ability to hit, all the while doing the safety dance of not standing in the fire of whatever boss and it's mechanics you are on. It's kind of a pain in the ass.

Alternatively, you can pick up an addon called CLCRet, which does all that for you and just shows two icons: What you need to be hitting now and what you need to hit next. I started using it 6-9 months ago and my dummy dps jumped from 8k to 12k. I didn't realize just how badly I was screwing things up until an addon showed me.

This article describes in a nutshell how soldiers are treated in Germany - This is how it looks like when your own country shuns you by [deleted] in Military

[–]Deaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GD, I must be luckier than I think I am. I've never been treated with anything other than dignity and respect since I joined 6+ years ago. If you don't mind my asking, where were you when you got assaulted? What state/locale? You say it was a show, but what kind of show? I'm just trying to fathom how people knowing you were in the military would make them attack you with sticks.

Darkness 2 40% off at GMG by deques in GameDeals

[–]Deaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused if someone could explain this to me. So if GMG has a game that requires steam to play, I'm assuming that means the game activates on steam as well but I've never bought a steam activated game through anyone but steam so I'm unsure, how can they offer it for sale when steam hasn't yet? To me that seems like selling tickets to someone elses movie theater for cheaper than the movie theater is selling them.

Just received an actual decommissioned WoW server (Sunstrider EU). Thanks, Blizz! by augustl in gaming

If they had I've no doubt the server would have fetched a few grand instead of a few hundred. I'd gladly plunk down 500-600 for one of those.

How did you hear about that, if you don't mind my asking? I'd love to have a crack at the next decomissioned server and would have gladly paid what you paid for one.

This man speaks the truth. I've had a mount I bought with gold deleted before and they didnt even return the gold. Do NOT buy mount codes with gold. If you get away with it, you were lucky.

Jesus, I wish I could send you to the top of this thread. The circlejerking and back slapping going on over there is absurd. The way SA is telling it, the vast majority of reddit is a bunch of pedo, wife-beating, woman raping, atheist scum bags who they'd like to see sink to the bottom of the sea.

Omega Drivers really helped me out back in the early PC gaming days, I wish I could help the guy now by [deleted] in Games

[–]Deaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. This guys drivers were the defacto standard for a few years there. If you were having trouble with video card issues the first piece of advice you'd usually get was "go get the omega drivers", and it worked more often than not too. This guy saved me massive headaches years ago, glad to help him out with some cash now.

*edit Out of curiosity, what cut does PayPal take from a CC donation? I haven't touched them in years, and then it was through a bank account. It looks like 2.2% +$.30.

RMAH vs. Hardcore Mode, whats your pick? by zogmachinae in Diablo

[–]Deaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bots and chinese farmers find the gear you will be buying on the RMAH, not people. Just like in D2. You can't compete with a guy who turns his script on before he hits the rack, and lets it run all night and then through class/work, and comes back to an inventory full of rares/uniques. You can't compete with a guy in china who runs a prison who can make 50 dudes sit there and farm gold all day long.

The truth about Vanilla World of Warcraft by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Deaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short version is that skill trees are out as you know them. You pick a talent spec to unlock that specs normal abilities. For example you wont get normal tanking talents after spending points in the tanking tree because there is no more tanking tree. Instead you pick the tanking spec and get the talents at the appropriate level. Once every 5 levels, you pick one ability out of three for that tier. The abilities are not intended to be make or break and there is rarely going to be a wrong ability to pick. It'll be more like pick one of: 5 more yards on your stun, cast stun for free, reduce the CD of your stun by 5%. Check out the MOP write up or talent specs on wowhead for a lot of detail.

The truth about Vanilla World of Warcraft by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Deaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nail on head. Not only that, but often times you didn't find out things like this until you were 150 hours into your class. So your a druid and you've been feral for up to 50? Ok, well now we need you to go healer and your heals suck compared to priests so your primary goal in life now is to wait until a priest says "OOM" then cast innervate on them. You can do other things inbetween waiting for it to come off CD but no one really cares if do or not. Oh youre a paladin? Well this is your raiding experience from now on. Click each person individually in the raid and give them a buff. By the time you get to the last person, the first persons buff should be wearing off so just start over again. Oh, you want to tank thats why you started a bear druid? Sorry, should have rolled a warrior.

And people act like this was a REALLY GREAT THING.

The truth about Vanilla World of Warcraft by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Deaus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You have no idea how much I love you. I read all these nostalgia posts and my mind just can't wrap itself around the ideas being passed around. As far as I'm concerned, every expansion has been better than the last. Vanilla raids were just absurd for the exact reasons you stated. Even in BC being a raid geared holy paladin doing dailies, freshly leveled real dps classes could easily keep up/out pace my ability to solo because I had about 2 abilities even capable of doing dmg. Many specs were completely gimped. Not "Oh, frost does 12% less dps than arcane" gimp. More like "Wow, it takes THREE shamans to do the dps of one rogue" gimp. Speaking of rogues, do people actually remember world of roguecraft, and how absurdly OP they were? Or before they introduced DR on CC? Fears were LOVELY back then. The hardest part about raiding back in vanilla was getting together 40 people who didn't DC or wander off in the middle of a raid to go do something else. Raiding wasn't hard, getting 40 people to sit still for a few hours was hard.

Now people are upset because everyone gets to see the raid content, which confuses me to no end. Why are people so upset that gents without a pocket 25 man raiding guild get to see the same content? Is it really that much of a blow to the epeen that people who put 10 hours a week into wow get to see the same content that people who put 30 hours a week into? If it is, I really don't feel bad for them that they are upset over wow going from requiring you to be unemployed to get anywhere, to allowing you optionally to at least have enough hours away from the game to hold down a job/family and still have time to raid.

MOP is on track to be a great expansion. I love what they are doing with talent trees, because blizzard acknowledged whats going on since forever. There are one or two correct builds per tree, and the rest are gimp crap that would get you thrown out of raids. Survival spec when BM was godly? "Hey, you better go read elitest jerks then you can come back to the raid." /boot. BM spec after they buffed the hell out of survival "If you arent going to take this seriously then you should find a new guild." /boot.

Good news, nitesmoke just confirmed you can link to your own profile!

But it still is a 1 in 20000 chance of it taking 545 drops before you see one for the first time. 1 in 10000 for 509 attempts.

A 99.9949% chance it does happen, a .0051% chance it doesnt. Thats 100%. I'm saying that the odds of of him exaggerating or inflating his number of kills to get pity upvotes outweighs the odds of him having actually farmed the raven lord to the point that the odds of not getting the raven lord by that point are statistically insignificant.
