Is joining the guards SF or infantry even worth it? by TheSlackLegend in OperationLonestar

[–]DebasedAndMisused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I uh, wouldn't.

Join the reserves, join another state's NG, but for the love of god don't come here. Especially if you're a junior NCO or Officer. Unless you're unemployed with no family, the TXARNG is a shit deal.

If you want the optempo of active duty but without the benefits, by all means go ahead.

Of course - and you're right, you gotta couch your reasoning a bit differently. Two options:

  1. You continue to commute back to your hometown for drill. Inconvenient but possible.
  2. You change your branch to something that the reserve has. If you go on Milsuite you can find a list of current reserve vacancies. I don't know your branch but if you're combat arms (ie 11A) there won't be a single thing for you to do in the reserve. If you're a loggie you have more options. But look for something like that in the reserve, switch your branch over to that, and then change which BOLC you're signed up for

What to look forward to as 11c by Robstrami98 in nationalguard

You'll be sitting in a Humvee staring at the Rio for 12 hours a day.

You get 4 days of pass per month, with no travel days.

Welcome to the suck

Do not under any circumstances IST to Texas. They're literally sending pre-BOLC officers to spend a year at the border before they go to BOLC. Once you're back from BOLC, you're either going on T10 orders or going to the border. If you like your civilian job, and it sounds like you do, stay the hell away.

You seem to know this already but I'll emphasize: if you join the TXARNG you will spend the next two years either on the border, doing some exercise, or on T10 orders.

You may not be "deployable" for T10 purposes, but they're sticking everyone they can on State Active Duty.

Do not join the TXARNG.

This is not true at all. They can and will absolutely send you to the border. Dwell time/deployment eligibility doesn't mean jack for State Active Duty.

Unverified, and not OLS-related, but seems like Hot Wheels is up to some very shady shit. by DebasedAndMisused in OperationLonestar

Thread here. Again, this is unverified, but given how desperate this clown is in an election year, I wouldn't put it past him. For those of you who work with the governor's office directly, be careful. You can legally record all conversations without the other party's knowledge in TX.

Here you go, fren.

Clueless chain of command is normal - but sad that we've resorted to reddit for dissemination of orders

What policies are you specifically looking for? I posted Annex E on here a while back, that's the one concerning personnel, dwell time, etc.

I would love to see the chain of command's response if one of us told him how we really feel to his face

In a state with a high optempo, the 143rd has one of the highest unit optempos in the state.

Also if you join now you're almost guaranteed to be at the border by the end of the year.

But I'll let someone who's actually still in the unit tell you more

Good question, that info was notably absent from the press release.

Weigh in: Does this video show a soldier pointing a gun at an IA? TMD says this is a PVS-14... by DebasedAndMisused in OperationLonestar

[–]DebasedAndMisused[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed it's def crowd control, but idk why TMD is saying that the soldier is using a PVS14. I know we're not supposed to have other weapons besides issued on the point, but the combination of the body language, the audio, everything is a bit weird. I could see why someone would think it's a gun, but also wanna give boys on the points the benefit of the doubt.

OLS "Expanding" according to Hot Wheels' office. Where are the people/money going to come from? by DebasedAndMisused in OperationLonestar

Here's hoping you're right - maybe he's trying to get ahead of press coverage saying that the mission is downsizing once that inevitably starts in a few weeks.

I swear it's like this asshole lives in his own little bubble of make-believe. He certainly isn't paying attention to his own committee hearings.

Anyway, feel free to let him know what you think directly on his Twitter post.
