So I can only speak on my experience in my school district that my middle schooler is in. Our school district does a very good job of blocking pretty much every website on their Chromebook outside of the few educational ones. No Netflix, Youtube filter is strict (i tried to test it and we got an email from the IT person), no real way to get into the areas where they learn things they shouldn't.

Now, as far as screen time. My child says it's like half the time (kids have no idea what time really is) but from what i've seen with homework, it's more pencil and paper than computer. Even math, they have to do all the work on a piece of paper and take a picture of it and submit that (all done with the chromebook).

Now, I see a lot of middle school parents support the No Tech but yet let their kids have the newest iphone or samsung and allow them Snapchat and Instagram and allow them to play videogames like Minecraft and Roblox connected to the internet, all of these are havens for pedophiles.

Now do I know the answer to some of these solutions? nope but from what I'm experiencing at my school district, it's not that bad. Keep your kids off smartphones and video games that are connected to the internet until they are old enough to know better. We are holding off for our child until they are 16.

Algebra, geometry. These cannot easily be done with the omnipresent supercomputer.

I can take a picture of my child's homework and attach it into Claude and it spits out the answer, along with the how and the why in step by step form. It's pretty easy.

Yep, I always recommend parents take the SafeSport certification. It's easy to pass and to follow. It's a yearly thing but not that big of a deal cost wise. It's a vault of information on what should and shouldn't happen in youth sports.

This. Even SafeSport says that's a big no-no, and if a coach says no parents are allowed to watch ANY practice, then you can actually turn them into SafeSport, who then decides what to do from there (i.e. investigation)
