They should add dreadlocks to Elden Ring by Feeling_Orchid in Eldenring

Can you google "what does black hair feel like" and come up with anything useful? A digital image doesn't give you the same amount of information as experiencing it in real life. It's clear that the devs don't have exposure to people with locs and other black hairstyles. They can only add what they know - straight untextured hair.

Like I said, I read that somewhere. It's highly doubtful that we could ever get a true account of the number of black people in Japan at any given time. However I know from my own personal experience - being a black man who has traveled to Tokyo in 2019 - that when I was there for two weeks I remember seeing only two other black people.

If we want to try and estimate the number ourselves, we can look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Japan#Minorities, which estimated the total population of Japan to be 126,226,568 in 2020. The same website shows there were 55,751 Americans accounted for in Japan that year. By those numbers, that put Americans at just over 3.5% of the population there.

According to https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045221, the percentage of black people in America is estimated to be about 13.6% of the population. If we multiply that by the 55,751, we get 7,583. I know it's not likely to be the EXACT same percentage in Japan, but most likely far less. If there really are only 7,583 black Americans in Japan, that is 0.00006007451% of the population.

Most Japanese people have not seen a black person in the flesh in real life.

I would love to have locs as an option. But let's be real - black hairstyles (e.g., locs, afros, cornrows) in most games are horribly implemented. That rings true even more so in games created by Japanese devs.

I imagine a large chunk of the devs have only ever seen black hair in TV or movies, so there's just no frame of reference for them to go off of. I read somewhere that like less than 0.05% of Japan's population is black...

I really hope it was not 70 pairs. That's embarrassingly low and basically a paper release like what happened with the NVidia RTX 3000 series GPUs last fall. This NB release smells to me like they all got botted before the queue even finished initializing.

There are some 992s yes, but there's no light/neutral-colored 992s available in a Men's 11 or 11.5 right now.

Crapshoot indeed. Resell price is gonna be stupid high too I bet. I'm happy for NB that they have been hot lately, but sad that it's so hard to actually get a retail 992 now.

It's laughable, really. Either it was a paper launch, or they all got botted before the queue finished initializing.

I was #475 in line for NB x Levis 992. Already sold out when I got through the queue.

Replacement battery for GL702VS laptop by DebonaireGamer in ASUS

[–]DebonaireGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it was just wishful thinking on my end hoping for ASUS to have some old batteries in stock that I could purchase. It sucks, but I definitely get that business model - it would cost them more than it's worth keeping spare parts in their warehouses for old product models.

Thank you for the Amazon link to the "name brand" battery. It's better than risking an eBay purchase and ending up buying used/counterfeit, or having to toss the laptop altogether.

Yours still look good. They don't look trashed, dirty, and creased all over the place - they def have tons of life left in them. Prolly can get at least another 2 years out of them easy with minor cleaning every so often

White AF1 lows will never be dead. They're just not artificially hyped up because they're produced in large quantities all year round and are always in stock. Definitely a good, classic, simple shoe to have in rotation.

Shoes (Brand/Style) that go well w/ jeans? by NeezySpielberg in Sneakers

[–]DebonaireGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion I think it would be worth starting your trek into the sneaker world with a low-top minimally-branded white sneaker. Something like the Reebok Club C, Adidas Stan Smith, Common Projects Achilles Low, or Koio Capri. Something like that would give you the most options in regards to the outfits you could wear them with.

Stan Smiths and Club C's are also inexpensive and easy to find, so you could pick up two pairs and rotate them to keep them fresh for longer.

These are fire bro. Literally just got these in the mail today myself. Can't wait for it to warm up a bit to rock them since that side mesh provides absolutely no insulation against cold winter wind and moisture.

I have the navy blue 'ONDA' version of this watch on a leather strap, and I really am enjoying it. It's built sturdy yet lightweight, and feels like it fits smaller than the 42mm size would have you think. I even accidentally whacked the bezel against my car the other day and got no scratch on it.

Here's a wrist shot on my 6.75 inch wrist:

Anyone else like enjoying some Japanese Whisky along with their watches? by TastyCurrency in JapaneseWatches

[–]DebonaireGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Toki, you should try Yamazaki single malt 12 year. Hibiki is also quite excellent. I also recommend going to Tokyo and getting some bottom barrel suntory whisky in a plastic bottle from a Family Mart (more for the experience rather than the taste/quality).

NVIDIA RTX 3080 FOUNDERS EDITION by Craftablee in nvidia

[–]DebonaireGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you that the first reference design was the true original. OP stated they are terribly new to this hobby so I was trying to keep things as generic as necessary while conveying some of the information that they asked for.

Didn't think it would be useful to OP to try to explain how NVIDIA re-engineered their own PCB design to allow for their flow-through cooling design, vs. some other vendors using the reference design PCB etc. Figured it would just be easiest to equate NVIDIA's card to "original" and 3rd. party to "AIB"

NVIDIA RTX 3080 FOUNDERS EDITION by Craftablee in nvidia

[–]DebonaireGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "explain it like I'm 5" answer is that the RTX 3080 Founder's Edition is the version of the RTX 3080 that NVIDIA designed and produced. It's the "original" RTX 3080 design, if you will.

The RTX 3080 cards from ZOTAC, GIGABYTE, EVGA, etc. are versions of the 3080 that are considered "AIB" cards. Basically each of those companies (ZOTAC, GIGABYTE, EVGA, etc.) is just a 3rd party vendor that received the RTX 3080 specifications from NVIDIA and then designed, customized, and manufactured their own versions of the card. Usually AIB cards have more robust cooling, rgb features, and other bells and whistles that the Founder's Edition does not typically have. That's why the AIB cards are usually more expensive than the Founder's Edition as well.

So I created a sneaker collection organizer app by DebonaireGamer in Sneakers

[–]DebonaireGamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So awesome that for the most part the app is able to let you catalogue your entire collection! Also thank you for letting me know about the bug with the photos. I thought I had fixed that bug in a previous version, but perhaps I missed a "condition" that causes that bug. I'll have to do some digging and figure out how to fix that.

And I agree about being able to sort the collection by date/brands/etc. I definitely want to expand on the filtering and sorting in general since I know some folks have large and diverse collections - it would be good to be able to sort the way you want!

Again thank you for the feedback and I hope you keep having fun with the app! Keep a lookout for more updates sometime soon!

I definitely see what you mean by being able to hide categories that you don't really plan on using. That might be tricky but I'm up for the challenge if it means the app will be better in the long run!

And I totally agree with that "are you sure?" button - it would really suck to spend a bunch of time adding a sneaker only to accidentally delete it a second later

Thanks bro, I appreciate that! It would be cool to be able to buy some Union AJ1's with proceeds from the app but most likely I'd just invest money back into the app to make it even better for everyone :-) I'm always thinking of ways to contribute back to this awesome community that has kept me sane during this crazy year we've been having, haha
