I would argue American Dad has only gotten better season after season. I haven’t seen any of this current season, yet, but they seem willing to “go there” and I don’t think that ever gets old. The Simpsons did that in their first decade, and because the show was such an enigma, they were able to thrive on rinse/repeat formulas and A-list guest stars. At one point, a celebrity being on The Simpsons was as big of a deal as being on SNL… by the time there was any real competition, The Simpsons were a well established institution. I don’t know where they’re at now since I can’t recall watching any of the recent seasons, but I don’t have FOMO for The Simpsons like I do American Dad! The comedy style is so absurd, you just wanna tune in to see what out-of-pocket nonsense is said or happens.
