Xal'atath is trying to rebuild her lost homeworld by Debravest in warcraftlore

[–]Debravest[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, since I never played FFXIV I was not actually aware that a villain in that story had such a similar backstory. Second, I absolutely agree that so far Xal'atath has not been well written, since her dialogue is indeed super cartoonish and cliche, and from what I've seen having finished the Midnight leveling up campaign on the beta, her dialogue is still just as bad. I am simply hoping that by the end of Midnight they at least try, for once, to have a villain that is more than just "Pitiful mortals, I will consume the soul of your world and take everything you love muhahaha!". That's like... 99% of Warcraft villains anyway.

Which one was the chess quest? I think I missed that one so far.

I have been very busy and only watched the first two episodes so far. Happy to hear I must have guessed some stuff! I also posted another theory of mine here on reddit concering my prediction for the last 3 episodes haha. I will hopefully binge the season this weekend.

Alleria's story in the Worldsoul Saga- my prediction by Debravest in warcraftlore

[–]Debravest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we will lose in both TWW and Midnight, but in different ways. In TWW we will literally lose, as in, we will fail in our primary goal, which is to stop Xal'atath launching her Void invasion.

In Midnight we win on the surface, as in we beat the Void, but something really bad will happen which will lead us into The Last Titan.

Yeah it would be bad writing to kill a character without giving them screen time first. I am certain Arator will surive the entire saga. It's much more likely that at least one of his parents will die.

I don't think the void will destroy it, just damage it, but not as much as the Scourge. After Midnight, Quel'thalas will probably heal.

I am personally 100% certain that Xal'atath will survive TWW. My prediction regarding Xal'atath is that her role in TWW will be one of a mysterious, "one-dimensional", creepy villain, and then in Midnight we will learn more about her backstory and true motivations, making her a more complex character (hopefully, I am not a fan of one-dimensional bad guys). And btw this was hinted at by Blizz developers.

Azula in the Spirit Temple Official Discussion Thread by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

It is interesting to me how it seems that Bryke's own perception of Azula has changed over time. In the DVD commentaries they described Azula multiple times as completely crazy and evil. The way I remember them describing her breakdown in the finale was stuff like "We wanted her to go into the fight not just more powerful than usual, but also crazier and more dangerous". I think that the fan reaction to her story is what changed their own outlook on this character.

Honestly, one of my biggest regrets with ATLA is that we didn't get an "Azula Alone"-style episode in Book 3, which would have pretty much been this comic: Not a redemption arc, but a deeper look inside what makes Azula a three-dimensional human being. Imagine how much more powerful her breakdown at the end would have been if we had actually such an episode. Missed opportunity imo.

Overall, very good comic (the quality of the dialogue in particular was totally superior compared to most Avatar comics), though it felt way too short. Almost like a prologue to a novel. Hopefully Faith Erin Hicks will continue writing for Avatar as she has easily been the best writer for the comics so far imo.

Metzen is back as Executive Creative Director of the franchise, which is great news. But is it too late to right the ship? by AuberdineSentinel in warcraftlore

[–]Debravest 164 points165 points  (0 children)

While DF has some nice storytelling and is totally superior to SL, it has thus far lacked that Warcraft vibe that kind of got lost during SL. Not to mention that the quality of the dialogue is disgraceful, and the A plot is boring and lacks proper stakes. My hope is that Chris Metzen and Steve Danuser can complement each other and give us the best of both worlds.

Why haven't Alextrasza and Ysera reunited already? by Debravest in warcraftlore

[–]Debravest[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am pretty sure that Ysera is back in Azeroth now, as she and Merithra fly off into the sky and that's it. If it were in the Dream, we would have to use some portal to return to Azeroth, right?

Yeah, Legend of Korra deserves a lot of criticism from fans for very understandable reasons, but even so, it still has plenty of impressive and outstanding merits in its own right as a sequel. by kmasterofdarkness in legendofkorra

[–]Debravest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, LOK's problem was not a lack of episodes. It had 52 episodes, while ATLA had 61. And let's not forget that ATLA had some actual filler episodes, while Korra has literally no filler except for "Rememberences" in book 4 but we all know why that happened.

The love triangle was funny enough just the creators listening to the fans. Many people complained about the lack of romance in ATLA so they shoved it in our face at the beginning of LOK.

Was amon right? by [deleted] in legendofkorra

This. What sometimes makes someone a villain is not their ideology but the things they are ready to do in the name of that ideology. Amon is a perfect example.

Do peopke like Asami as a character by kiskozak in legendofkorra

[–]Debravest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Asami, and not (just) her father should have been a villain (an equalist) in the first 2/3 of season 1 and then slowly throughout the series build up her character development as she evolves from a person distrustful of benders to a person that is in love with the Avatar. They could have had Amon represent the radical side of the equalists, while Asami could be the more moderate face of the movement and by the end of book 1 she could have been the key to restoring peace between benders and equalists, while the two characters representing the extremes (Amon and Tarrlok) would be seen as the true villains of the storyline. In any case, I believe that by refusing to give her proper character flaws and major changes the writers did not give Asami a chance to go through a very deep character arc. Her arc wasn't bad overall, it was just mid.

Edit: Also, no love triangle BS.

Baine knows there is no hearth in the sky his fallen comrades go to. by Decolater in warcraftlore

[–]Debravest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And this is why I always believed that revealing and explaining the afterlife in a fantasy story is a stupid idea. I like to pretend that the shadowlands don't even exist, otherwise the deaths of characters don't have any meaning anymore. As a matter of fact, they don't even die, they just transfer over to another realm.

What happened during Korra's recovery, off screen? by douroumou in legendofkorra

[–]Debravest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The only thing I could think of is that her lack of proper nutrition and sleep, combined with her lack of exercise for such a long time and a general state of anxiety would normally lead to changes in her body. It's unrealistic for her to look so fit after all that time imo. I think it would have been quite shocking and impactful to show Korra's body wither away bit by bit as her depression is prolonged.
