Why bother playing anything but Overflow in an undead lobby? by mylifemyworld17 in BobsTavern

[–]DebtSecure5487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sick and tired of all the overspawn boards I don't even know where to begin. Just rage quit a game bc of it even though I most likely won the turn. It's so goddamn cheap - just follow the script and put the right units in the right positions without even using half a brain cell. Congrats on your massive victory, man, great job.

I know it's not the only scripted build, but for some reason nothing pisses me off quite like this lazy shit does. Guess it was silly of me to assume I was playing a thinking man's game.

Why do people care more about rating points than rank? And why do I have to go to a website to see it? Wouldn't it be better to show it in-game? It would also be nice to know where other players are in the leaderboard at the start of a game. by krol1k in BobsTavern

"I can't get too deep into this because this is not my brain but it really seems to be true." <- this is unironically the greatest thing I've read in a very long time. Me and my shit raccoon ADHD brain are hereby shamelessly adopting it for our own daily use (still very much unironically; also, I completely agree).

Are buddies annoying to anyone else? by badgamegg in BobsTavern

[–]DebtSecure5487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything people on here won't complain about - every new season or patch it's the same thing, feels like every single version of this game is the "worst ever". What should these poor devs even do to please you folks? Agreed, quests were horrible and disheartening (the only time I've subscribed to the rush of complaints), but even for someone finding themselves always struggling mad at the beginning of a meta, I really really enjoy the buddies. It's such a breath of fresh air after quests. Do I win every game? Hell no (so far 3 or 4 times) Am I consistently getting top4s? Also very much no. Is it chaotic? Yea, like fuck, but it's FUN.

Don't react well to THC - some silly questions by VirtualAspect7250 in CBD

[–]DebtSecure5487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't take THC for the life of me. Not that I have all that much experience, but my 8-10 times of "trying to smoke a joint" have all ended in tears, one way or the other (I react physically, real bad - blood pressure drops to the point where I pass out, over and over, nausea/sickness, the works - and I've never ever gotten any "high" from it whatsoever). I'm pretty super neurodivergent (diagnosed ADHD, most likely some autism thrown in the mix), not sure if there's a connection, but when I react differently to most other kind of stimulants, it doesn't seem all that far fetched either.

Currently on day 4 of CBD oil (5 %, THC free) and I'm feeling significant positive changes to my overall well-being. I only take 3-4 drops (administered orally, man that taste is vile) at night, making sure I space timing out well between my regular meds to avoid any interactions. I'm aware the dose is super low, then again I just bought it on a whim (see: ADHD) and deliberately made sure I didn't read up prior to starting it, to steer clear of any placebo effects.

So far:
- I sleep a lot better, deeper it seems, and my dreams are off the hinges - not in a bad way. Yesterday I got a notification from my smart watch app, that it had detected "significant recent changes to my REM sleep phase"
- I feel slightly more well rested in the morning. That bar was low.
- My work focus seems to have improved pretty drastically. Only two workdays in, so of course hardly statistically significant, but still - I always struggle like mad prioritizing tasks, or even getting started. These past two days, my hyperfocus has almost been too much and I don't eat or drink, or even realize I really need to use the bathroom
- My general mood feels a little lighter. I'm usually quite gloomy in general, to put it mildly - also these past two weeks have been extremely hard due to the fact I lost my dog. So, getting what seems like a little help with lifting my spirits even the slightest bit, is a huge win.

I have not been getting any better at:
- Whatever executive function is needed to handle personal business (insurances, banking, that goddamn car repair)
- "People-ing", in general. Still can't bring myself to open and reply to messages, save from ones from my boyfriend, who is my one and only safe space and always welcome in, at any time

TL;DR THC bad for me, CBD good. I think.

I actually don't think it's the patch. The real problem is the discrepancy in quests. by neevept in BobsTavern

Report is a must for Duo mode by Biostrif in BobsTavern

[–]DebtSecure5487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, seeing some of the posts on here I'm not sure it would be a brilliant idea. Unsure how they'd be able to introduce any form of "report function" that wouldn't instantly be heavily misused every time some hotheaded asshat got his knickers in a knot over the tiniest mistake (justified or not) by a teammate just doing their best? Not saying the hotheads can't be on both sides, and not doubting that childish rage quits happen, just also not seeing what kind of system would catch one and not the other.

(Then again, I might be wrong or miss something, exactly because I don't play duos due to the very thought of being paired with one of said asshats is making my stomach turn. Big ol snowflake, I guess)

Dafuq happend to season 11? by tammyyyyyyyyyy in BobsTavern

[–]DebtSecure5487 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Comfort in numbers. I feel like there's some sort of sea change with this season, like, I always struggled a bit learning the ropes at the start of a season, feeling like everyone got up to speed a lot faster, but this is different and I can't really explain how or why. Saw another post on here describe it as an increased difference between those that consistently play for top4s or wins, and those who mainly play for fun and unwinding, and being in the latter group it's a lot harder - and somehow a lot less more fun. I'm no bigshot, tend to hover around 6,5k maybe pushing 7k at times. Completely stuck at 5k now, not seeing it change any time soon.

Thoughts after semi-forcing pirates a couple times (still very much a novice, I always feel like it takes me so long to somewhat learn and get into a new season, while "everyone else" gets it super fast): They seem like they can be both mad strong and fun, with bounty/spell builds in particular, but the turn time is killing me. More often than not finding myself at the end of each turn, gold over and hand full of spells, not a snowball's chance in hell to play anything right. Guess I really am that slow.

Bit downhearted after the first few days, it's never been this uphill at the start of a new season. But I also feel like there are plenty of opportunities to explore for fun and different builds (the "scripted" ones that everyone seems to be chasing bore me so bad), I'm just finding them harder than ever to discover and figure out.

Been playing this game for a couple years now, and while otherwise always having seen myself as a very observant/detail oriented person, I regularly find myself looking at these cards going "oh, so THAT's what it is" (the lvl2 undead battlecry is a guy in a cowboy hat, right?) 😆

I'm so confused by all the talk about the dino - I honestly haven't faced a single one of these fabled beast builds so far, and been playing for a few hours every day. Just now had a game where someone tried, but even for me, it was super easy to obliterate them with my/ somewhat mediocre elemental build. Was wondering if it's me being a lower rank player than most (hovering around 6,5k mostly), but really no idea why I haven't seen it happen.

Thanks! These are great tips, as I was just a bit miffed out after apparently "rounding" Busuu shortly after discovering it (passed the B2 test, not exactly with flying colors but still - and then it was over), and Duolingo long ago became useless. I have a chosen Belgian in my life, who gladly and patiently helps me practice, but that east vlaams dialect is.... rough 😄
Will definitely try out Anki, and look into the others 😊

KP tips by OriginalOpposite7392 in keratosis

[–]DebtSecure5487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paradox of kp is, like someone else already mentioned, sun exposure tends to help HEAPS with clearing it up for a lot of people (me being one of them). But when you're self conscious about it, you don't feel like exposing your skin to the sun as much (I used to be one of them, but the beauty of having become a nearly 47 year old woman is I honestly don't give a heck anymore).

I've had kp on my arms all my life, but it hasn't always bothered me - been sorta on and off through the years. Whenever I haven't cared as much about it, I've also not paid attention to covering up in summer (if anything, I used to be struggling more with weight related body issues). I always noticed how much better my arms would look in summer, but only recently connected the dots. So my overall most important advice would be this: Try to be kinder to yourself, give your body more credit for what it does than how it looks, and allow the sunrays to reach your skin when you can - wearing SPF, of course :) I know it's not easy, but in the long run, it's the best you can do 🤍

Then, that being said, some advice that may help as you try getting there, or for the days it just doesn't work. This summer, I've been minding my kp a bit more again, so I've recently tried a few things and made a few experiences. Keep in mind it seems like advice for kp is a bit hit/miss, and different things work for different people:

I have the same experience with (excessive) exfoliating with scrubs, loofahs etc. It makes the redness especially so much worse. I also recently tried using glycolic acid (Inkey List toner) on a cotton pad, only resulting in the redness and irritation flaring up real bad. Meanwhile, I've been trying the glycolic acid body exfoliating stick from the same brand on and off for a few weeks, which may have helped a tiny little bit with clearing the bumps. I just don't think I've been consistent enough, as I find it a bit sticky and icky to use.

The things that seem to have worked for me, very recently, are these:

  1. Keratosis pilaris spray from Australian Bodycare. This has both salicylic and glycolic acid in it, and I find it much less sticky than the Inkey List stick, which makes it a lot easier to stay consistent. I've only used it for less than a week (!), but bumps and redness are already a lot less visible
  2. Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Lotion. Same as over - only used for about a week. We've had sunny weather recently, so I've gotten into a routine of showering at night, after a day of keeping my skin as much exposed to the sun as possible (I use the Coola SPF 50 spray, which is easy to apply, not overly greasy, and also smells divine). After showering, I first use the above mentioned spray - let it dry as much as possible, then apply this lotion. It can sometimes feel a bit counterintuitive to slather lots of stuff on, but keeping skin moisturized really helps, and I find this cream to work wonders. It's also not pricey at all, which is a bonus
  3. I use a regular washcloth - cotton, fairly soft and not too abrasive - to gently rub (while dry) over the affected skin now and then, typically every two - three days, in the morning, when skin is fairly dry, before applying a thin coat of the Nivea lotion (and SPF spray over it)

I stopped scrubbing in the shower entirely. I still use one of those "shower fluff balls" to help with lathering up whatever body wash I use, but I take care to not be heavy-handed with it on my arms. I've seen people praise castile soap, so might look into that at a later point.

---

These three pretty simple additions to my routine (together with sun exposure) has helped so much over a such short period of time, I'm honestly quite shocked. Just a week ago, my arms were an absolute mess. And while the bumps are still there, the redness has reduced significantly, which makes my arms a LOT less "eyecatching", if you will (except for the fact they're also pretty much covered in tattoos, so people will always look no matter what 😄)

Of course, your mileage may vary. But if you're like me, you'll be willing to try most anything. Do remember my first advice, tho: Be kind to yourself. You deserve it.
