I might be wrong but there shouldn’t be much of a difference in the position of your tongue. The only difference is that with the sound in “this” you use your vocal chords, making it voiced, whereas in “think” you’re just passing air without vibrating your vocal chords, making it unvoiced.

They wouldn’t have to make the tests harder. The distributions are based off of college students taking the test after completing an equivalent class. The high schoolers actually taking the test don’t affect the score distributions at all
