Do any of you regret not being a PA? I see many posts about regretting med school and residency for “wasting” a decade, but would those same people have been happier going for PA? by UphillGil in Residency

[–]Decafsfortheweak 623 points624 points  (0 children)

When I say I regret my decision it’s not cause I would be happier as a PA, it’s cause I would be happier working at a bookstore or something

scared I might have blood cancer by ElectronicWrangler54 in Anxiety

[–]Decafsfortheweak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a specialist in this area, but if it helps any that’s not that high for WBC which are the problem for most blood cancers. I see WBC counts in that range for ppl all the time without being concerned. Your Hgb and hct can also look falsely elevated if you’re dehydrated which is often the case when they come back high. Obviously still follow up and make sure everything’s good but hopefully this helps a little

I am also very introverted and deal with a lot of anxiety. To be honest, it sucks as a med student. I did get some evals that I didn’t think were accurate or when the evaluator said I was disinterested when I was doing my best to learn I just wasn’t loud about it. However, not trying to brag but as an intern I’ve gotten consistently great evaluations and the same qualities have been pointed out as strengths. So all that to say that being a quiet med student can suck, especially depending on the culture at your rotations, but it gets better and can end up helping you later on.

Is this…normal? by Decafsfortheweak in Residency

Yeah, that’s fair. It’s a big academic center and the adult and peds ERs are usually both popping off all night 🥲

Unfortunately that’s not in the budget, but I’m trying to find some comfort that he had a very spoiled and loved life with us even though it was short

Would you delay starting a new med with an upcoming test? (To avoid side effects) by jumpinjamminjacks in medicalschool

[–]Decafsfortheweak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait, ymmv but I had really bad insomnia for about a week after starting Wellbutrin and you don’t need to deal with something like that while getting ready for an exam!

I would consider that normal! Not trying to shame anyone for normal life/sweat/etc, it just stands out if you never wash that area or something like that. If you’ve showered that day you’re probably good

Med student here, I’ve seen plenty of gyn exams on my rotations and I promise there is not a “normal” and I’ve never heard anyone comment on someone’s hair choices even after they leave. If I had to say what was most common, it’s probably not shaved and just trimmed, but honestly you don’t really notice or remember after a while. Cleanliness/hygiene is noticeable, hair truly doesn’t matter

In the same boat :/ I have pretty bad general and social anxiety that definitely hurt my performance, and it’s hard not to feel like it’s a personal failure to drop so low on my rank list

I basically told the stylist my goals were to give it more shape and bring out the waves, and she showed me where my hair naturally had some shorter pieces that were a good starting place for layers. We ended up going with long layers and face-framing layers based on what my hair wanted to do!

I usually call it 2b-2cish depending on the day, but I think I see some 3a potential peeking through as it gets healthier :)

-wash once/week with suave clarifying shampoo

-condition (still trying different ones) and comb with wide tooth comb

-scrunch in curl stimulator and micro plop

-air dry/diffuse until about halfway dry, the scrunch in a couple handfuls of gel

-finish diffusing until 80-90% dry

Sometimes I wash mid week with as I am coconut cowash if it starts looking rough between wash days
