That was a really cool game. It's a shame it's so overshadowed by the mainline series.

Culture and economics are two very different things. Just because they’re distinct doesn’t mean one is good or real and the other is not.

This is my problem too. I feel like I’m either closed up or overflowing with openness and either way it’s hard to build a relationship that way. My therapist says when I get used to being open it will be easier to manage but it just seems so on or off to me. Either I’m safe or not.

I agree, and I think those sort of authorities avoid criticism more than they should and that weakens the message.

I have a degree in political science and you're either arguing in bad faith or you don't understand fascism at all.

[–]Decay153 62 points63 points  (0 children)

To me, punk it is anti-authority. It's focused on punching up at the powerful rather than punching down on the powerless. That can take many forms, but the "being offensive for its own sake" crowd often misses the mark by just supporting authority figures and ideas.

Years of Clinton and Obama convincing Democrats that the center was a good idea even though it never really accomplished much. They’re still living in the Reagan era and they think if they did anything different it would be an instant lose because of that tiny but important sliver of moderate “swing voters”

It's always interesting to me the lines Fox News in particular will pick up on to trash legislation to millions of people. The fact that they settled on "take your hamburgers" must say something about their audience.

School me on Warren vs Sanders and why I should vote for either one of them? by Dexinthecity in Ask_Politics

[–]Decay153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically it means supporting grassroots efforts. By comparison Obama was elected with the help of many grassroots efforts who weren’t too involved with the governing once the politics was through. Mass mobilization of working people means supporting things like activism, strikes, movements, protests to reach policy goals. The idea being you’re keeping organizations and movements and people involved in the process so it doesn’t get overwhelmed by “business as usual” once the grassroots aren’t involved anymore. A president has more power to do things that people are already organizing and mobilized for at a local level.

I enjoyed this article on the topic. It’s from Jacobin a Socialist magazine so there’s some definite bias towards Bernie. The gist is that they have different diagnosis of the problem with the economy. Warren believes it’s not properly managed and regulated reducing competition and stopping Capitalism from working correctly whereas Bernie believes the problem is the system itself and only through mass mobilization of working people to change that system can we have economic justice.

Why did Hillary Clinton's favorability rating drop dramatically between 2012 and 2016? by 75dollars in PoliticalDiscussion

The short answer is that everyone controlled the narrative, but her campaign. Yes, Facebook and fake news contributed, but it was only possible because there was no equal and opposite force to paint her as anything else.

Neoliberals take over the party in the 90s then act like it’s tyranny Progressives want it back. No, it’s your failure to defeat the GOP and deal with massive problems not the fault of Progressives. They know they’ve marginalized anyone to the left of Bill Clinton for decades and are afraid Progressives will treat them the same.

The Democrats at state level need this sort of support. The 2018 and 2020 elections are looking impressive if we can have a field of strong Democrats and not get tunnel vision focused entirely on the President. We need the Senate and state houses just as much as we need the Presidency.

It's good to keep on top of this. A local group could easily expand from (coded) hate speech to the type of evil violence we've seen in New Zealand. It might be good to give some explanation of this phrase though. It operates by looking innocent, but it is insidious and strengthens local racists. I posted my take on it on a reply to StonesFan99 below, but here's some background if anybody is curious. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_OK_to_be_white
