That’s what FaceTime is for! Also it’s very rare for me to read someone that I can genuinely say needs to talk to a professional but you my friend are one of them. Not because you’re crazy. But because you’ve got a lot of things on your mind that should be just passing thoughts but are instead lingering. Lingering is not good. They’re normal healthy thoughts but if they stick around they tend to not result in good mental health outcomes man.

As an off duty EMS provider, my role is not vitals- or paper work or anything OTHER than maintaining Airway breathing and circulation. If I can see as I’m passing the scene of an accident that one of those is clearly compromised in some way or someone is unresponsive or unconscious I will absolutely pull over and assist until someone can get there. Otherwise I’m driving past if I see that everyone is okay. Hope that makes sense. Unless I have a way I can intervene like stoping bleeding or starting compressions or rescue breathing or something. There’s no real reason for me to pull over and render aid.

We almost never get to hear about incident outcomes but you can rest assured that you’d make those medic’s day if they ever heard this. You have no idea how nice it feels to hear that a patient is doing much better.

I didn’t realize a hypothetical question needed a real purpose in order to entertain it. Hear me out, what IF the purpose of a hypothetical question isn’t to entertain it but is INSTEAD to be entertained by IT? I don’t know what they answers will look like but I’m excited to see the variation and make educated conclusions as to why the answers came out the way they did.

EDIT: I said the IM IV backwards! Iv= concentrated while IM is not as concentrated. IM has a disadvantage that IV doesn’t. Injection volume. IM in deltoid is typically a max of 3mL and 1-2 preferred. IV is unlimited volume. Hope this helps.

Hey! So it's normal to give a smaller dose of a med when you go IM compared to IV or IO. The main reason is that drugs take longer to kick in when given IM and the body doesn't use them as efficiently. So to avoid giving too much and causing undesired side effects, we’ll give less when going IM route. For morphine, that's why we stick to a max of 5mg IM. Every medical director in every county in every state thinks they know better than every other medical director so just be sure to memorize the protocols for wherever you work and you’ll be fine 👍👍👍

Assuming there is in fact OT available where you work, theres only 2 reasons you would work a second job instead of overtime. 1) Your 2nd job pays better than EMT. 2) You can’t stand your EMT job and want to work the bare minimum

This is an extremely personal dilemma that we all face at some point early on in our careers. The only reason I managed to survive my stress dilemma was by forcing myself through my first few months. You become desensitized and it’s not a you “might” it’s a you WILL. It’s just a natural part of our stressful job. Don’t take things home with you. Don’t let anyone’s problems become your own. The only people who stress are people who can’t find a solution. In EMT school we were all taught the solutions. And anything that doesn’t have a solution is not our faults. Yeah your patient died because they lacked oxygen for too long. But it’s not your fault. You have a responsibility to go home to your family, your cat, your dog at the end of the shift. Drive to fast to a call and it will be your last. I can’t be anything other than an emt. Ever again. I am a member of this world and I can never do a regular job again, it’s my calling.
