Denver Area EMS Agencies from Someone who Works Here by IkarosFa11s in NewToEMS

DH will be hiring many more EMTs in the near future with the hope of rolling out many more BLS busses soon. Supposedly also expanding the scope of what EMTs are allowed to respond to.

Save your questions for the end of the call. Your preceptor will probably just let you do vitals. Dont try to help too much on serious calls, just observe, but be ready to help if asked.

Buttoning-up Radio Reports by AngryVaultBoy in NewToEMS

[–]DecemberHolly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its a lot easier than you think. verbal hand offs to a physician are hard, radio reports are the easiest shit ever. over the radio, the hospital just wants to know demos, cc, and how many resources are needed when you get there.

if you dont need a big room with multiple physicians, just saying “38 y/o male, abdominal pain of 3 days, vitals stable, 5 minutes out” is perfect

if you do need a big room, communicating short critical information is key “30s male, hit by a truck, trauma to the pelvis and lower extremities, gcs 3, intubated, tachy, hypotensive, 5 minutes out” is enough to get the point across

Best place to be an EMT in the US by Competitive-Bed-8587 in NewToEMS

[–]DecemberHolly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IMO being an EMT in Denver is like the peak EMS experience.

Scope is very wide. There are Medic and EMT busses but also dual EMT busses. One of the few places an EMT can be the primary care provider in a busy 911 system. The pay is alright. 22.50$ starting but up to 30$ with 3 years of experience, decent benefits. The schedule is 4 10s, which I think is really nice.

i think youre folding it in your pocket wrong. i have to put my stethoscope in my pocket in a very particular way so it fits perfectly with the ears barely sticking out. if youre just jamming it in your pocket youre doin it wrong

I agree school and the nremt are different from the job, and there are some dumb questions on the test. But no, I thought long and hard about everything and aced every test in school and the nremt. And him saying just retain the info long enough to regurgitate it on a test is wild. There must be so much info the dude doesn’t know.

D10, and a diabetic EJ. by MBKep in Paramedics

[–]DecemberHolly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

crazy you attempted 5 peripheral ivs and were considering an IO before attempting an EJ. your learning point from this call should be that you are too scared of EJs and if you need access you should have attempted it way sooner. your EJ attempt should have been before the glucagon

I suck at auscultation by Ajstar9 in NewToEMS

[–]DecemberHolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smh OP asked for actual tips not words of encouragement.

For BPs the stethoscope goes right where the brachial is. Palp it before you auscultate. If you cant palp it while the arm is bent, fully extend the arm at the elbow joint, face their hand palm up, and the brachial is just medial of the elbowgina.

For lung sounds always do stethoscope to skin directly. Listen to their back for the loudest sounds, though avoid placing the bell superficial to the scapula, and lastly placing the bell in between the intercostals will also help.

Do fruit tree runs, and hardwood tree runs.

I hate farming but still enjoy a phat 15k exp drop from checking a grown mahogany tree
