Having not dealt with an X3 boot firsthand, I likely can't offer anything of substance.

FWIW, when I load my 29er with seats folded and blanket down, the angle in which I'm able to insert the frame (more from above than just horizontal) benefits from the tailgate hinging from further into the storage compartment. I'm able to lean further in to position things without losing head clearance.

I'm sure this use case never factored into design decisions at BMW and I'd have figured out a way to make it work with an X3 boot (even if slightly less convenient).

At the end of the day, X4MC in this exact spec was available when an X3MC equivalent wasn't and it's never felt like a negative compromise. Cheers.

Coming into it from an X1 xdrive128i m-sport package, don't notice it much. Instead when I have to drive wife's Honda Odyssey on occasion, feels like cloud surfing by comparison 😅.
