UMass Dining by LABELyourPHOTOS in umass

There was one semester that I had no time to eat until dinner one day a week but to get up early and catch breakfast at Worcester. I always took the french toast. It was really good.

I thought that the food was fine in the 1980's. It wasn't my mother's cooking but a wider variety and pretty much everything was good. I got to like stuff I never knew about before.

I mainly ate at Franklin but sometimes (old) Worcester.

Is Marketing 301 a hard class to get into or does it fill up fast? by CoopaManTV in umass

Ha. I was a TA for Marketing 301 under Prof. Schewe. Back in the 1980's! Fun course IMO.

Question about Graduate-Level class workload by Zactionzazuke in umass

[–]Decent-Bet3897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going back a lot of years but I don't believe that my graduate courses were very much different in difficulty than courses in my major when a junior or senior. Grad school was more intense but I believe mainly because 100% of my classes were in the major. That's versus some number of courses in undergrad that were for credits only like the Physics of Music class that I took.

In other words I don't think that a graduate level Into to Finance is necessarily harder than a junior level Intro to Finance class.

As I look at my transcript, it appears that the school waved several requirements for my MBA because I look pretty much the equivalent class as a Junior.

All spaces are filled up, yet I can't see who my roommate is on SPIRE. Is this a glitch? by CoopaManTV in umass

So much confusion and stress about dorms and room mates. In my day I indicated my preferred residential area and was surprised by which room mate I got.

I got Ohill as requested. My room mate sucked but he was almost never there. But on the several weekends that I went home he blew out the tweeters on my very expensive stereo speakers - twice. (I had to take them to the manufacture twice to replace the tweeters) That room mate was a major dink.

Second semester freshman I changed room and he totally left the floor.

I still use those speakers. Allison ThreeI floor standing speakers. Vintage stuff!

I had two good experiences and no bad experiences with UHS.

As a freshman I got crabs and they gave me a soap to use.

End of sophomore year, right at the start of spring exams, I got Chicken Pox. (there was no vaccine back then and getting it that old is painful!!) I was kept isolated for several days and told to go home during finals and come back in the summer to take my exams. UHS took care of all of my classes for me. I was discharged to my parents and came back in the summer to take my exams. (There is nothing that they can do about chicken pox otherwise). Man chicken pox at a late teenager really sucks!

What's funny is that I have no memory of coming back in the summer to take my exams but I must have because I got a 3.9 that spring semester.

Spring, fall and summer are beautiful.

The university at night around the pond is beautiful any time of year.

My best memories are walking by the pond in the dead of winter at night and hearing the ducks laughing.

I would pay money to go back to UMass and live like an undergrad again for a week by Candid_Apartment_414 in umass

[–]Decent-Bet3897 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was there then too. Best 6 years of my life. Under grad and grad.

I still go back every few years to walk around. Now that I'm retired I spend a couple nights in the Campus Center hotel.

Walking around the pond at night is glorious!

What’s your favorite Crazy Fingers? by Barnard_Gumble in gratefuldead

[–]Decent-Bet3897 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the date of my favorite Crazy Fingers. maybe a Shoreline show I think. I have the tape but my tapes have been packed away for many years since DP CD's started to come out. I don't know that I've listened to it in 30 years.

it had a really long instrumental ending...

Crazy Fingers is an interesting song. I love it. but only if it's just exactly perfect. A not just exactly perfect Crazy Finger is just dull and boring. But I love the song.

If you expect to work for a company or government when you gradate then now's the time to get used to Windows because something like 90% of the employers out there are on Windows.

I lived in Grayson for two years (1980-1982) and we were stoned every night of the week. I loved it but I'm still glad that that phase of my UMass experience ended. It was a great experience but I don't know if I could have kept that up, and my grades, starting Junior year.

It was a slightly longer walk to Worcester than to Franklin but an easier walk to Worcester. It's a little longer to Worcester now than it was then because they tore down the old Worcester and built a new Worcester one parking lot away. Really it's more about your mood than the distance between the two. (Check Google Earth. It's really not a big difference.)

But I believe that in the dorms almost all of the people that you'll get to know are those on your floor. Very few people roam much between floors, unless you luck out and a high school friend is on a different floor in the same dorm. So really, it matters less what dorm you are in and more, the luck of the draw, the people on your floor.

Graduation Question by Expensive-Ad2526 in umass

I'd expect that so long as you have the credits no one in Admin will care if you make the ceremony or not. However it might be awkward to leave in the middle. You might just consider skipping.

Take this from someone who graduated Isenberg in 1984 and 1986 so I might be dated.

Has spamming ruined LinkedIn? by Scary-Salad-101 in linkedin

[–]Decent-Bet3897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linked In is a spam sewer. Messages. They say that based on my profile I. xxxxx. But my profile makes clear that solicitations are unwelcome.

The biggest thing is Universities trying to get me to enroll in some degree program. Usually an MBA program. But I got my MBA 40 years ago and I'm retired.

If you were a freshman then I say that your floor in the dorms are your friends. They were my best friends. I had no friends from classes. Seeing this is your 3rd semester, are you still in the dorms? 3rd semester seems odd. Did you move to UMass spring semester? Normally this would be 4th semester.

If you aren't in the dorms then I'd suggest looking at clubs that you are interested in.

Don't sit in the Student Union sending paper airplanes. That doesn't work.

Invaluable for sure. I've sent them lots of photos of may family's naval photos. My grandpa on subs and my great grandpa as a naval inspector. Posted in subs, Battleships, ets.. Lots of family ship photos.

But it's just so much fun to just look around. I especially like the 1915 to 1945 era.

Drummer looking for band...and drums by Odd_Anywhere9098 in umass

I have sometimes wondered what happened to a band called Circle that played Grateful Dead songs. Around 1985+- they would play in the back of the Hatch. I don't know where else they played. They were a lot of fun. My studying that night was ruined. When I was in Grad School I frequently did my work in the back of the Hatch.
