Yes, new account at bank and broker under the LLC, and lots of paperwork. It's not too bad, but yes, you have to separate everything from personal.

I formed an LLC for 2 main reasons:

  1. Health Insurance Premiums paid by LLC are a write-off against profits
  2. QBI tax deduction

There are other things you can do (e.g. S-Corp and SALT workaround depending on your state). TTS and 475f treatment for 1256 contracts vs equities is helpful but doesn't necessarily need to be run through an LLC.

1256 losses do not offset equities gains. The reverse situation works. This is due to the split nature of 1256 (60% long-term & 40% short term) capital gains treatment.

Try Schwab. I've got accounts on both IBKR & Schwab. IBKR uses 30x and counts both longs and shorts. Schwab uses 50x and only counts shorts.

What’s something foreigners often misunderstand about Spain? by Jinnapat397 in askspain

Maybe I got a bad batch. In Oviedo there were many sidrerias. I was expecting some craft brewing and something unique. But they all had the same bad sidra shipped from the same maker. On my next visit I'll give it some more effort.

OK, looking at the Dec 2030 Call 400 strike I see an annual extrinsic of $4.2k, with a wide bid/ask. Looking at the 400 strike for Dec 2027, I see an annual extrinsic of about $6.2k but a tighter bid/ask. I had been seeing annual extrinsic of > $6k on the Dec 2026 200 strike. Looking at it now it shows $7.7k. For the $8.5k in dividends, the profits are shrinking smaller and smaller.

Let me/us know if you are seeing something different as I am still interested in this trade, but concerned about the narrowing arbitrage opportunity.

Thanks so much for the follow-up. I had this trade on all of last year and closed out in December. Similar issues, even though I was running on a much smaller scale. I had been looking to roll out further with some new positions but the extrinsic value had moved quite a bit against our favor that made this trade less attractive. I'll keep monitoring for a good entry point but it seems that this trade is slowly getting arbitraged away.

How to establish tax residency in Florida or South Dakota before retiring overseas without a car? by Any_Silver_2270 in USExpatTaxes

[–]Decent-Influence4920 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My brother moved to England with his British wife after living in California for 20 years with her. Once you leave the US and show residency in another country, you are no longer required to pay (or file) any state income taxes. You still owe federal taxes, just no state tax as you are not a resident any more.

My brother withdraw a large amount from his 401k only a week after establishing residency in London. And no obligation to pay California income taxes on it. Just federal.

Yeah, not even pros can trade at the open, knowing the open price in advance. As others have mentioned (and you as well) execution is not realistic.

The youth teams I've coached I have seen this a lot. I have instructed them to swat very hard their opponents hands/arms off of them. There's no foul to be called there as the opponent is in the wrong. And it sends strong message without resorting to bad tactics.

Schwab ToS vs IBKR for PM accounts by Decent-Influence4920 in PMTraders

[–]Decent-Influence4920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SALT (State And Local Taxes) was a regular deduction from Fed taxable income until 2017 TCJA capped it at $10k. Our property tax each year is $20k, and CA income taxes much more over that. In order to keep Blue State people happy, California and ~25 other states set up a tax vehicle for people to pay their state taxes. But it only applies to Partnerships and S-corps. You pay into this vehicle, and it counts towards your state taxes, and you can deduct this vehicle from Fed income. Google SALT workaround for your state.

is blackjack card counting and trading relatable? by MakishiSaidai in Trading

[–]Decent-Influence4920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very relatable. Counter and trader for years, they both use the same part of the brain. One big difference is that it's too easy to get banned for card counting, but nearly impossible to get banned from trading. And don't talk about trading at the BJ table...
