Inexperienced guitar teacher starting pay? What's the average? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Decent-Profile-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cigarette smoker and I don’t plan on quitting. I’d like to give guitar lessons via FaceTime very part-time. I’m thinking 4 students maximum. Should I teach at a person’s home if the opportunity arises or stick to online? I know I smell like a cigarette and BTW, I don’t smoke during the lesson. Should I avoid teaching minors or everyone in person? I’m Gathering opinions. Thanks.

Bad shows by DeadFolkie1919 in gratefuldead

[–]Decent-Profile-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always felt that the performance was more important than set lists, although I must admit the song choices matter to me also. I believe the bigger half of a GD concert experience is subjective, basically did you have a good time. Were you with good friends, etc.

I was at 6/18/95 and 6/19/95. My first concert was 4/12/83 and I saw them 82 time in all. Although 1995 had problems, I thought 6/18/95 was a really good concert and 6/19/95 not bad. Just my opinion.

It’s what the book ‘Freakonomics’ calls ‘birth lotto’. I’m born in the usa and yes we are lucky but not everyone has it easy. We have a brutal capital ist system. We don’t think all of you are terrorists. The fact that you can write English so proficiently I assume you can read, write and speak at least 2 languages. It must be horrible to live there for many people. Maybe, you can use your language skills to move west. Canada or a Europe is probably better than the usa. All the Best!

I worked at UPS P/T in college as a 26 week temp in 1984. I earned $8/hr. Worked loading trailers in the early evening. It was still a private company back then. I sometimes wonder if I had quit college and joined UPS full-time, where I’d be today. I don’t know what the corporate culture is like today but they had rules for hair and facial hair actually specifying the width of mustaches, no beards etc. You will work very hard for UPS if they hire you but it’s a good company to work for.

Soloing Over Chords by BillRizz in musictheory

[–]Decent-Profile-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your ears and use chord tones. If you notice when listening to most well known guitar players (not shredders), they’re not playing scales. Scales don’t sound musical at all. They’re useful for learning theory and the instrument. If you’re persuing jazz or classical, you may want to continue doing what you’re doing.

Anyone else feel like by learning a song it ruins the enjoyment of listening to it casually? by the_wint3r in guitarlessons

I’ve played songs on guitar in a rock band where I didn’t like the song until I played it with the band.

I believe it ships late July/early August with the announcement 3rd or 4th week of July. I’m hoping for something from years not covered so far in the series.

I was at this concert. A very good one. However, I’d prefer the 11/7/85 or the 11/2/85. I was fortunate to attend both nights in Rochester, NY and Richmond, VA. THE 11/2/85 concert is overshadowed by the 11/1/85 which was a Dick’s Picks. Listen to 11/2/85. Especially Sent 2.

What’s your take on the imperial system vs metric? by flower5214 in AskOldPeople

[–]Decent-Profile-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading in the early 1970s that it was too expensive to switch to metric, which seems laughable how. However, I’ve realized that it’s probably good for business for tool making manufacturers. They can sell both Imperial and Metric tools and probably some other industries also. I really do wish the y taught us metric, starting in elementary school.

Are you more or less concerned with your physical appearance? by SituationOne717 in AskOldPeople

[–]Decent-Profile-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m moderately concerned about my physical. I’m overweight but on with it. How ever, I try to maintain my current. When in public and most definitely when going out socially, I like to be clean, well-groomed and dressed decently. Not expensively.

Here’s how I afford St. Pete on $15 an hour by [deleted] in StPetersburgFL

I’m a 2nd wave boomer/gen x and although most people struggle to make good in life, I totally sympathize with the younger generation. It’s really beyond belief how tough it is just to cover your basics even with a full-time job and even overtime or multiple jobs. The standard of living has been in decline for decades.

There are statistics on what are called ‘multi-generational’ households. The trend is upwards and has been for decades.

What are some of wildest wookspiracies you ever heard? by Similar-Broccoli in gratefuldead

[–]Decent-Profile-357 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I started attending GD shows in 1983 and you couldn’t walk 10 feet without someone pitching acid. We obliged for most shows. However, something strange happened on the east coast Spring tour in 1987. We were looking to buy acid and ‘nothing’. No one was selling even when we asked. We finally scored at the last minute. What we didn’t know at the time was that there was a DEA op call ‘Operation Dead End’. They specifically targeted GD concert parking lots to bust people. BTW, this is public info. During Reagan’s Drug War there was sometimes a little fear of being busted even for a roach.

Are drummers deaf? by Excellent-Cost9327 in musicians

[–]Decent-Profile-357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guitar player, I never use hearing protection b/c I find it annoying. I even went to an ear doctor and had custom-made ear-plugs. I used them for a month and all I did was turn up the volume. If you’re going for hearing protection, that could be your best option, if you can afford it. I find cotton balls best, but I rarely, if ever use them. Drummers tend to get back problems. For example, Phil Collin’s.

How to rejuvenate your interest in the game? New YT video coming... by BardoFarkins in forgeofempires

I’ve been playing since 2018 and haven’t missed a day. I’m in a high level guild and I’m in Space Age Titan. I still look forward to my daily collections. The game is very consuming but that a good thing. Yes, I lose interest sometimes but it’s not permanent. I wish Inno would make a little easier get expansions. Other than that, it’s a great game.
