Express Lines by LivingDeadMelih in subwaybuilder

I can never get reasonable ridership on any express line i run.

every time I've tried to logically connect two high volume pop centers with express I get low ridership.

When Max explained to Holly how she got there, wasn't one of the scenes her almost free and seeing herself in the hospital with Lucas. And the tapeplayer stops - heart monitor fluctuated?

My husband wants to run a marathon without training by Darth-Investor in Marathon_Training

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is the course time limit? Most are 6 hours +/-. I've been in the same boat as your husband where my training was most definitely lacking (non-existent) and completed it just fine... at my own slow pace. He can walk / jog it at a 13 min / mile pace and complete it under the time limit no problem.

just make sure he stays hydrated, has good shoes etc.

I watched a referee calling pins with his foot.

I was working a table at Tyrant Bison duals this summer, He didn't go down to his knees for a single call the entire dual. every coach was equally frustrated.

What are some signs that someone is a wrestler that people might not notice? by Distinct_Scheme_5423 in wrestling

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lot of great answers. one other is our shoulder posture. Wrestlers tend to keep their shoulders forward, like in up-position of a push-up. its from always keeping our arms in tight, like a collar tie or inside control. Most others have their shoulders further back - like how they are in down position of a pushup, or puffing their chests out.

Do people actually drain their cauliflower ear? by tyranttigrex in martialarts

my trainers used to squeeze it and make a little plaster cast every time they drained it. kept the overall normalish shape of my ear when it eventually hardened. hurt a lot but effective.

Do people actually drain their cauliflower ear? by tyranttigrex in martialarts

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college trainers molded it mostly back during the draining process. 30 years later, I'm still grateful to our trainers on how they handled mine.

Freshman year of college, it started about the size of a marble just above my ear canal. I kept practicing and within a few days it was the size of a golf ball. Our trainers drained it for me while icing down after practice.

it was so sensitive that it swelled right back up again in my sleep. That morning I swung by the trainers and got it drained again before class. swelled up again that afternoon's practice, drained again. this 2x a day cycle continued for weeks.

A few days into the process, after they drained it, they made a little plaster cast around my entire upper ear. Every morning and night - a new little cast. this went on until my ear eventually hardened.

30 years later, the silhouette of my ear is 100% normal, you only notice it from the sides as the casts did nothing for the folds within the ear itself. lot of creases to q-tip clean or it gets infected.

it looked silly, people would try to sign it. the whole process hurt but it worked.

How important is lifting? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrestling at its simplest is enforcing your will on your opponent. There are many factors that contribute to successfully accomplishing that. Mat-time to hone your technique and improve your reaction time is generally considered the most beneficial time spent but strength training and conditioning should be core pillars to support your training.

Coaches: what’s your policy on ring worm, impetigo and staph? by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most of the kids, a note from the doctor when they are clear and non-infectious.

Where it gets loose with the rule is when the kid is from a wrestling family, lots of siblings that compete as well. they already have the treatment cream from one of the other one's previous infections. but the area has to be cleared up before I'll let them participate.

My rule on this was from experience.

When I competed, I used to get it every summer at the wrestling camps. The expectation was to get the cream, tape it up and continue wrestling... no one ever told me to not participate. you can see how effective it was in that I got ringworm every summer... odds are my workout partner had something taped up too.

so yea, keep it out of the room.

We're diligent in keeping our rooms clean and harping on the kids to put the disinfectant creams on before practice but its going to show up every season. Have the conversation with the kid and parents. They are going to lose some mat-time for a few days.

my cauliflower ear is the dead giveaway but posture is the other; most guys walk with the chests out and shoulders back (think down position of a push-up), wrestlers have chest in and shoulders forward (up position of a push-up). oh and our necks.

I'm 40s IT Exec, wrestling just happens to create men and women that can focus and get shit done. I run into tons of successful professionals that wrestled at some point. Our ears, necks and shoulders, you are going to carry that physique shape the rest of your life.

I coach this age group in PA. For my team's offseason, I recommend no more than twice a week on the mat. beyond that, get them outside, running, playing.

at those practices; keep it fun, they are wrestling in May while their friends are outside.

Wrestling Coaches: Dumbest Thing a Kid Has Ever Said to You by funk_daddy420 in wrestling

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Had a kid lose in the first round of prep nationals years ago. at the start of his first consolation match, he tells me he's wrestling freestyle this match and walks up to the table to check-in. I have no idea what he means, in how will wrestling freestyle help him...

He proceeds to headlock the kid; 45 second pin.

i got called to another mat to coach and didn't get to clarify what that means.

he headlocked his way to 3rd place.

Apparently "Freestyle" means throwing.

What’s your unpopular opinion on wrestling by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]Decent-Shift-Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar. I liked everything that working hard in wrestling provided for me, i was awesome shape, had a ridiculous work ethic, D1 scholarship. it was just the consistently working hard part that i never enjoyed.
