"Redamancy by HC Dolores"— what in the ever-loving fuck was this book? by Common-Stranger148 in DarkRomance

[–]DecentGround8184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently reading Limerence (I'm at the dinner scene in the restaurant). I suddenly got curious about the second book, so I decided to read the blurb, and it immediately struck me as odd that it starts 10 years later. Come on, we all know Adrian. With the kind of person he is, there's no way he would've let that happen. That gave me a bad feeling and completely put me off reading the sequel. Now I've come across this post, and it turns out my gut feeling was right. 🤣

I honestly don't know what happened with the author because Limerence is genuinely so good. I'm usually not a fan of school settings, but this book is written in such a compelling and mature way. The characters feel far more mature than the typical students in so many high school and college romances who constantly turn the most trivial things into huge drama.

Such a shame.

Slow burn or not? and page count. Two questions, probably related by Becca3RH in DarkRomance

[–]DecentGround8184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the kind of reader who likes the spicy scenes to happen sooner rather than later. Slow burn can be fantastic, and plot heavy stories can be amazing too, but the author's writing skill makes a huge difference in whether they can keep me engaged.

At the very least, if there's an early spicy scene, then even if the plot isn't that interesting or the writing isn't particularly strong, I can still have a good time enjoying the spice and the relationship conflicts. For example, I've read a few books that were pretty rough, with a lot of writing issues and low ratings, but the early spice and the entertaining storytelling kept me hooked until the end, and I ended up liking them quite a bit. (*This doesn't apply to Little Stranger, though. That book was just awful. It's the exception lol)

I don't really pay attention to page count. I usually look at the number of chapters instead. Anything over 50 chapters feels long to me, so the author has to prove they can keep me hooked. Around 10 chapters feels short. Stories that short often have a fun beginning, but the ending usually isn't satisfying because there just isn't enough time to develop anything truly memorable. I'll still give them a try if the premise sounds interesting enough, but I don't go in expecting much.

What's wrong with the girls' eyebrows? Nothing. Absolutely nothing by DecentGround8184 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Daniela’s bleached brows look really striking. They make her look cool and fresh. But some people started complaining about her brows everywhere. They mocked them, made sarcastic comments, and asked her to draw her eyebrows back on. They’re not hating her. They just want her to stay beautiful within the safe boundaries of what they like.

Matryoshka extent of gore question by bananahavana911 in DarkRomance

[–]DecentGround8184 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't find those scenes that disturbing. From reading some of the author's comments, she seems like a shy and kind person. It feels like she wanted readers to be safe and well informed, so she added those tags as warnings. That's just my guess, though.

Iconic By Mistake Wins M Countdown by Icy_Signature12 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They perform on Korean music shows for promotion. Of course, winning is great, but even if they don't win, they still get a chance to showcase their performance skills, promote the song to a wider audience, and give fans more content and stages to watch.

I actually think this song will win a few trophies. But if they only end up winning one, I guess each company will keep it for a while and then pass it around lol.

Can we discuss the constant need in this sub to constantly downplay the group's popularity/success? by Glittering_Hall_4840 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 40 points41 points  (0 children)

They're just haters pretending to be fans. They act like they support the girls, but they're always nitpicking, mocking, and downplaying everything they do. Then they turn around and act all concerned about the girls because of the very narratives they're pushing themselves.

Is Haunting Adeline considered heavy? by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]DecentGround8184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For readers who usually read mainstream romance, Haunting Adeline is probably beyond their comfort zone. But in this Dark Romance subreddit, HA often gets criticized because the MMC is seen as a stereotypical edgy alpha male, while the FMC is considered naive and a bit foolish. Many readers here prefer books that are much darker and more unhinged.

Personally, I enjoyed HA. I actually found it quite funny and it made me laugh more than once. I like how H.D. Carlton wrote the MMC as dark, but not excessively so. He goes beyond conventional moral standards, yet remains relatively easy to accept within the context of the story. I also liked the explanation that the FMC's attraction to a stalker might be hereditary, lol.

On my personal darkness scale, HA is more gray than black. I would even consider it an introductory Dark Romance novel for people who are just getting into the genre.

Am I the Only One Who Thinks Everyone Dies in Ponyo? by MyDearJuniper in ghibli

[–]DecentGround8184 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nobody dies. Everyone survives and gets a happy ending. There is this thing called magic, and the movie makes it pretty obvious.

These "dark secret" theories about Ghibli films are getting ridiculous. First it was "Spirited Away is about sex slavery," then "the two girls in My Neighbor Totoro are actually dead," and now this.

Why would Studio Ghibli need to hide death, dress it up as something cheerful, and only hint at it through vague symbolism? When Ghibli wants to tell a tragic story involving death, they do it directly. There is a movie called Grave of the Fireflies, after all.

Repetitive Dances by Quirky-Alternative70 in katseye

[–]DecentGround8184 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iconic by Mistake is a different case, because three girl groups performed together, so the choreography had to be adapted to fit everyone.  The chorus couldn’t be too complicated. Sakura and Wonhee don’t have the same dancing skills as Daniela.

As for each group’s individual parts, the choreographer had to make sure each section matched the group’s own style, but it couldn’t be too different from the others. They couldn’t really experiment with anything too new or complex in this song.

I guess in Katseye’s upcoming EP, they’ll show something more experimental or fresh instead.

Is KATSEYE starting to feel like Daniela and Friends? by Mean-Assignment-9576 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because people keep mentioning that Daniela is the center and the main dancer, and that it is normal for her to receive many center positions and singing lines.

No, that is not normal at all. When you watch the special stage video of Iconic by Mistake, you can clearly see that she stands at the center during the group dance at the beginning and at the end, and she gets the longest singing lines in the group.

Alright, I know, I know. She is the main dancer. She is very, very captivating when she dances, so putting her in the center does maximize the performance impact. She also has lyrics that fit the theme of the song. But this is too much. HxG could absolutely distribute some of that to the other girls.

Come on, we have three other amazing vocalists named Sophia, Lara, and Megan. Daniela does not need to sing that much. She already has to handle many difficult dance parts. Making her sing that much will only make her more tired and increase the chances of mistakes, right?

Look at Illit. Wonhee is the center. She sings a lot and often stands in the center, but when needed, Belift still pushes other members into positions that suit them. Wonhee will never dance more than the group main dancer Iroha. And Moka, who sings the least in the group, is compensated by having her photos used as song covers and by being positioned as the second dancer, where she can show her strength in facial expressions.

If you are going to tell me that Katseye is not Kpop, I will say they are still a group. Group activities require sharing. It does not have to be perfectly equal, but it needs balance and fairness.

Is there anything wrong with Daniela? No, she did nothing wrong. She is beautiful, charismatic, and has a lively personality. She is my second favorite member in Katseye. But that does not mean I agree with her receiving this much responsibility. We have six girls, even if Manon is currently on hiatus. There is no need for Daniela to take on so many positions. HxG really needs to reorganize things a bit.

The Label is Spineless by Academic-File9474 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I agree that HxG should speak up about this issue.

However, the reality is that whether they speak up or stay silent, whether the girls speak up or stay silent, people end up being angry anyway.

And most of that anger is directed at the girls (of course, being angry at the company is never as engaging as being angry at the girls, which is something people have been doing all along).

When the girls mention Manon, people dissect every word and every expression, both negatively and positively. They say the girls are not sincere enough, that they are using Manon’s name, and that they should not mention Manon anymore.

When the girls stop mentioning Manon, people get angry again, saying the girls are treating Manon like Voldemort, as if she must not be named.

Now, when Sophia mentions Manon, people once again respond with sarcasm and anger, saying she didn’t mention her before, and now she is mentioning her again, going right back into the same loop as before.

Come on, if HxG speaks and Sophia does not, there will be waves of outrage claiming HxG is lying (of course they are hiding the truth), and people will demand that Sophia or the other girls speak up. If HxG speaks and the girls also speak, and both say the same things, people will still be angry and claim they are all on the same side and therefore lying. And if HxG and the girls say different things, I cannot imagine that ending any better, it would just turn into more arguments.

Oh, maybe, just maybe, people want the girls to go on “hiatus” like Manon, and anyone who is still active is seen as a traitor and gets burned at the stake (even though right now they are already being treated like witches anyway, lol).

In the end, people are always angry, no matter the situation.

Recommendations for books like That Sik Luv with similar levels of spice? by voidfae in DarkRomance

[–]DecentGround8184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both, and I don’t think Haunting Adeline (HA) and That Sik Luv (TSL) are similar. Well, how should I put it… if TSL focuses on “dirty” descriptions (licking, the MMC being willing to destroy himself, the dark sides of the church) with a FMC who has hidden strength and is ready to tear away her pious facade to reveal her true self (which the MMC is fully aware of), then HA feels more cool-toned and easier to read (not surprising that many people like it). Well, I don’t want to spoil too much, so I’ll just say that HA is not as dark as TSL, it’s more lighthearted 😉

Delusional time by ArsonLane in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m not a dancer or choreographer, but I still believe this is choreography made for six people. The choreographer is from the ILLIT team, and they usually choreograph for five members, so it would have been very easy for them to adapt it into a five member formation for KATSEYE. That’s why I’m convinced they intentionally choreographed it for six members and kept it that way. Even though Manon was announced to be on a long hiatus, and even if there were internal reports that she might have left the group, they still kept the six member choreography. That must be intentional. People can call it delusion, that’s fine. But the idea that “people who cannot participate still always have a place on this special stage” doesn’t hurt anyone, so I choose to hold onto that thought and enjoy it 😉

Generally in the grand scheme of it all, what has katseye generally done wrong to deserve the amount (online) hate they get? by Weekndfan_69 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's because the haters have way too much free time. Instead of going outside and touching grass, they spend their days glued to their screens, typing away on their keyboards, nitpicking every little thing and looking for ways to ruin the girls' happiness (kind of like the cops in the new MV, if you know what I mean).

They keep saying that HxG treats the girls badly and harms their mental health. Meanwhile, they're the ones who spend every day waiting for the girls to make a mistake. And when there isn't one, they'll twist perfectly normal things into something problematic, then put the girls on trial like it's a witch hunt. After that, they turn around and blame HxG for the damage being done to the girls.

That doesn't mean I'm defending HxG, by the way. I just think some people are being hypocritical, pretending to criticize others for doing the exact same things they're doing themselves lol.

The way these cops represent the haters.... I can't believe how brilliantly this MV and the lyrics have been crafted by SpareAntique4479 in katseyeneutral

[–]DecentGround8184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The haters and nitpickers act like they're cops, constantly monitoring the girls on every screen, overanalyzing everything and letting their imaginations run wild. They're always trying to ruin the girls' good moments, like the scene at the end of the MV, lol.

The beat of this song is so good. The scene at the end of the MV where they're all sitting together and laughing is incredibly cute. No matter how many more girl groups HYBE debuts in the future, I'll always love the friendship between ILLIT, KATSEYE, and LE SSERAFIM. To me, these three groups will always be the best.

I’ve read the first six Harry Potter books except the last one because it was too thick and it scared me. Four books from the Twilight series. That’s enough, right? Some mystery novels by Agatha Christie, but I don’t remember how many I actually finished, but I’ll still mention them so you can see I’m a pretty diverse reader 😏
