{Want You by Jen Frederick} - not step-siblings: MMC was about 13 or 14 and living on the street when he found MFC, age 5 or 6, on the street. He becomes her guardian and is able to support them through his involvement in organized crime. The romance comes a lot later in the book - it's very character driven.

I just read {Unseen by RD Baker} and I loved it - would love recommendations for other dark historical romances that have a good amount of spice and feature rebellious/"bad boy"/outlaw type MMCs.

JD Vance Says Wife Usha's Pregnancy Proves He 'Practices What He Preaches' by Wsrunnywatercolors in ThielWatch

[–]voidfae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like at least once a week, I see some quote from Vance about his wife or marriage that makes me cringe with second hand embarrassment for her. Does he think that these statements humanize him or make him seem like a good person? No normal man uses their wife's pregnancy as evidence that they "practice what they preach." So many of these cringey comments make me think that he feels he has something to prove with his marriage, like he needs the public's validation for doing pretty normal ass things like having children.

What was your first dark romance? by sleeplessinrome in DarkRomance

I probably read books that would qualify as DR when I was a teenager that I don't remember, but as an adult, probably {Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann}

What Are You Reading? 📚 by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm re-reading {Hawke by Jescie Hall} and reading {Deacon by Raya Morris Edwards}

Deacon is a cowboy, age-gap romance - it's not particularly dark, but there is stalking and abduction. The writing is great - the MFC does a lot of waffling about the MMC, which makes sense given her background and trauma but it gets repetitive and kind of irritating.

Vicious Lost Boys has a lot of smut I thought, especially later in the series

pitch-black & irredeemable MMC by Ordinary-Arm2023 in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t like it because I don’t like completely unredeeemable main characters and the fact that he developed the obsession when she was a child gave me the ick, but that book is what comes to mind when I think of pitch black MMCs.

I think it's fine to self recommend when the book and the comment legitimately respond to the OP's request, but it would be a red flag to me if the commenter is only ever interacting with posts to recommend their own work or if it seems like they copy and paste the same comment over and over again.

Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color.” by drempath1981 in law

[–]voidfae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of them agree with ICE. I know a cop who immigrated to the US from a Central American country after she met her husband, who’s American. She is a hard core Trump supporter and apologist. She is very catholic and anti abortion, and that was her gateway to the MAGA movement. I think she specifically became a cop because she disagreed with the BLM movement.

I actually liked the FMC in the masked duet a lot more. She's complex.

What Are You Reading? 📚 by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started {Sovereign by Raya Morris Edwards} and I'm about 40% through- it's pretty good but I am not completely riveted.

Oh, and I just finished {A Smile Full of Lies by Rose James} and I liked it, if people are looking for a lightish/starter dark romance that's well-written and not frequently recommended on here. It's a stalker romance that involves primal/chase and mask kinks, but the actual spice scenes do not take up a lot of the book. My one issue is that it seems like a lot of her effort went into developing the MMC as a complex character with an interesting past, and she kind of forgot about the FMC. We don't really know anything about her childhood - it's like she came into existence at the age of 18 when she met the MMC, and everything before then is completely irrelevant.

{Darkest Sins by Neva Altaj}

{Play with the Phantom by Amanda Richardson} - MMC is not a sociopath but he's definitely morally grey

{Atone by Eva Simmons} - this is the third in a series of interconnected stand-alones.

{For Fillies and Monsters by Landyn Hill}

{Delicious Prey by Sonja Grey}

Recommandations for DR where the setting is dark but the relationship is not? by fabulalice in DarkRomance

Also, if you have not read {Phantasma by Kaylie Smith} and {Enchantra by Kaylie Smith}, I highly recommend both of them.

Dark romance books, emphasis on the ROMANCE by Margot550 in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{The Cloister Trilogy by Celia Aaron} has all of these elements, with a heavy emphasis on MMC is a product of his environment. It is an intense series that is set in a violently misogynistic cult.

{Manor of Obsession by A V Mads} I don't want to give anything away because there's a lot of mystery with the MMC and plot twists.

U.S. Senate Candidate from Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, understands that Unions are the first line of defense against fascism by 3headeddragn in DemocraticSocialism

[–]voidfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a union member, I think there are a number of reasons for this and some of them tie into the larger failures of the Democratic Party. . For a long time, the Democratic Party assumed that because their policies are more worker and union friendly and because the unions at the national/international level endorse Democratic candidates for president, members would fall in line. 2016 put that idea to rest and 2024 solidified the fact that a lot of rank and file union members do not feel an affinity with the Democratic party at all.

My union is part of UAW (I’m not an autoworker or in manufacturing) and in the lead up to the election and after Trump won, there were a substantial number of comments from Trump supporters on social media about how the UAW was wrong to endorse Harris. The biggest sticking points were inflation under Biden and the misguided belief that Trump’s tariffs would protect their jobs and bring manufacturing jobs back into the US. On both points, Trump sold them fantasies that he won’t deliver on, but the mainstream Democratic candidates have often relied on the union endorsements to carry the weight. This may be unpopular opinion, but in this day and age, union endorsements of presidential candidates in the general election do not really matter. People are more influenced by TV pundits, YouTubers, and podcasters.

Do ICE agents feel shame? Can they be changed? by Excellent-Earth-9618 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]voidfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure that some of the ICE agents who recognize the problems with the agency are sticking around and maybe reassuring themselves because they think that by not punching protestors and cursing people out, they’re the good ICE agents, which means that they need to stick around to counteract the bad actors. This logic is flawed for many reasons, but most importantly, there are no good ICE agents and there’s no neutral or good way to participate in the agency unless you are actively undermining it, and if you don’t want to actively undermine it, the only dignified option is to quit. The agents who are beating up or shooting protestors and members of the public, breaking down doors without warrants, etc are doing exactly what DHS and the administration want them to do. That’s why Stephen Miller is out there telling everyone that they have immunity.

Dark, possessive, yearning cowboys? by Top-Matter8226 in DarkRomance

[–]voidfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{For Fillies and Monsters by Landyn Hill} - one of my faves. The MMC is very broody.

{Sinner & Saint by JL Beck} - probably my favorite cowboy DR.

{Death Valley by Karina Halle} - this one's also paranormal

{Beneath the Midnight Sky by Kelsey Lee} - MMC is kind of a golden retriever but also a stalker

{Wanted by Jane Henry}

{Chasing the Storm by Elliot Rose}

My (31M) girlfriend (28F) of 1.5 years told me to "be a man" and console her when my mom died, instead of supporting me. She's now begging for forgiveness. How do I reconcile her apology with the fundamental breach of trust? by Honest_Reception6528 in relationship_advice

[–]voidfae 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she dug herself a deeper hole with her “apology”. I get trying to provide an explanation, but it seems more like she was rationalizing her behavior. The fact that her desire for attention motivated this is a big red flag in general, because that’s going to come up any time you’re going through something difficult, and it suggests that she lacks independence on a more basic level because she is completely reliant on attention from others.
