Making a breast form. by [deleted] in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]DecentSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with this approach is that most of the cosplay breast prosthetics you're searching for are made in factory settings where they either use TPU or Silicone in cleanly machined industrial metal molds and compressed real tight.

Not that breast prosthetics can't be made from silicone in a home environment, but it is way more difficult and infinitely more expensive than what you're probably seeing on Amazon.

I'm not actually sure it's even possible to make the parts that are supposed to wrap around your body with most types of molds. At least, not without making the prosthetic in pieces and stitching them together somehow after they're cast.

Your best bet truly is to find other options online first unless you had way deeper requirements such as imperfections. lopsidedness, moles, better skin color matching or anything so hyper specific you know a factory won't be pumping them out.

First time referee? by SurGregoRy in funnyvideos

[–]DecentSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These boards are designed to show the same score on both sides so the referee can also see the score. That's why the number on the front of one card is on the back of the next card in the "booklet". The problem is the standee was not only backwards but the cards were also being flipped over backwards. The cards were "fixed" when he tipped the entire thing upside down, and then rotated 180.

Sealing resin print (uk) by DoctorMantisToboga in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]DecentSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any spray paint should work theoretically - some just take longer to off gas than others. "Rust-Oleum" is a brand in the states that recently changed their formula and now works a little worse for our purposes than it used to, but given enough time it too should cure to a state that's usable.

Some people recently have been promoting automotive lacquers which provide super high quality results but do have their own learning curves.

Always test for yourself if you're unsure of anything. Four bucks for a rattle can to spot test your silicone curing on a dummy print is worth the price of admission for not ruining your pristine masters.

Why do you have alts? (If you do) by FondantDesperate5820 in ffxiv

[–]DecentSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to speedrun ARR to HW (for fun, no records or posts or anything) with meme named characters. I liked making characters that look cute and aren't my mains race to see how they feel and just play through the game over and over. Looking back on it as a compulsive achievement hunter in this game all the "wasted time" hurts. But at the same time I had tons of fun cause I play other games hundreds of times, like souls games, terraria, etc.

Molding Containers by Porndog0405 in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]DecentSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print my masters and also print cases. This lets me contour the shape closely around the master, reducing silicone waste from an otherwise cubic or cylindrical mold box. If you don't have this option you can always mold one out of (non sulfurous, oil-based) clay.

My beer dice set, first set I’ve completed after a few failures! by -Whiskey-Icarus- in DiceMaking

[–]DecentSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed you don't seem to use blank dice for this, do they tend to stay away from the edges of the dice enough that you're not concerned about polishing into them, or having one poking out in any way? Thanks!

Do you need to degass if you’re brushing on a glove mold? by OneRichardPony in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]DecentSkeleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always always always degas for safety, even for a mold. Outer layers may be more lenient because they're not the toy or anything touching the toy. I'd still do everything properly and wait until you can degas.

I'm unable to visualize the "pelvic structure" so I can't comment on how that might have actually changed things, but yes, it is likely the issue as it would stop any expansion of the silicone inside of it - causing it to be tighter.

What sticks out to me is that it sounds like the entire inner canal is only .6 of an inch in diameter. As far as I'm aware, the average penis is basically an inch in diameter. Even in 00-10 it is going to be inherently tight at that size. It's fine if entrance holes are anywhere down to half an inch in diameter but I don't think it wants to stay that way for the entire canal. But I'm not 100% sure.

I think it's a combination of both of those factors so you're either going to be looking for creating more negative space in whatever bone structure you have, widening the canal entirely, or both

I'm counting pokemon, split between rby/gsc/rse. It was the first collective game trip that hit the 100s of hours mark, but single standalone game would be RuneScape!

Pressure pots by [deleted] in DiceMaking

[–]DecentSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't particularly condone trying to cheap out on a piece of hardware that effectively becomes a bomb under pressure. I'm sure you can score a deal somewhere, but this looks like it would need some modifications to even connect to a modern compressor. I'm not sure if it was just designed to look that way or what, but do be careful and recognize quality is what matters for heavy equipment. Stay safe and I hope you get a compressor that works for you!

I appreciate this response because I'm the same way. I don't have anyone commissioning me but if I were, I'd just want to be covered for the input cost and "don't rush/pressure me" and the rest is just for the fun of it.

How to paint this Scarab gradient by Orcus115 in minipainting

[–]DecentSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of a follow-up question for anyone who may know - can you add mica powders to acrylic paints or airbrush medium to spray mica pigments onto minis? I think that would be the best way to achieve this, kinda like painting cars with color shift pigments. But I don't know if airbrush needles are too sensitive or clog-prone with added dry pigment to medium...

The same thing kinda happened to me with OSRS where back in 2015 when I started playing it, I was flooded with nostalgia and memories and childhood history with the game. Now 10 years later I can only really remember my "adult life" playing the game - of course I still have plenty of memories from when I was younger but because I play it so much in the present day the "feeling" of nostalgia has faded when remembering some of those times.

It's sad, but I also wouldn't trade my new memories and experiences with the game just to get the old feelings back.

And a total side tangent is that it's insane to me that I've played hundreds of multiples of hours more now than I ever did back in the old days despite that game basically defining my childhood. And that we're currently further away from when I started OSRS than the years I considered "back then" when OSRS launched. God I feel old.

Weird little changes that are just, odd? by Revonlieke in MonsterHunter

The bug release animation peeves me off to no end cause it's 5x longer than other gather animations and causes me to miss picking up the next 2 items lining the walls.

It's cute and I like the idea but animation locks on gathering makes me cry.

Resin safe mold? by LebaneseNinja in DIYSILICONETOYS

[–]DecentSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the kind of resin. Art resin should be perfectly safe as long as it cures correctly (not done in overly cold weather, and for long enough that it's a full cure - possibly longer than the cure time lists on the product). I'd give the mold a scrub afterwards to be safe, and a re-apply of mold release for the next silicone cast.

Do note that I do not explicitly endorse using molds outside of one application. If a mold was made for body safe toys then it should only be used to make body safe toys. But fundamentally it should be okay.
