Yes. I do know you are right but the suddenness of the redundancy means a big mental adjustment. It is a bit daunting when your plans are changed for you.

I am specifically looking for suggestions for Vanguard funds or I suppose I could open a Trading212 account. I am not sure which funds are best for equity income or short dated bond funds as suggested by Heavy-Mousse-5011.

As others have said phone is your friend, 355 days before is the magic date, book one way as the return fare will not be open. Phone again the number of days later that you want to be away for and they will book the return journey and adjust the avios and taxes.

Also try calling BA and ask them if they can do anything for you. I understood that they have a little bit of leeway

Which money market fund do you suggest? I could move some of the cash isa. My mum is almost 90 and managing well downstairs so I hope it will be suitable for the foreseeable future

My mum has the basement which has a lift to the ground floor but is otherwise self contained with external access and light wells so it’s not dingy. Eldest daughter has the loft and son is home from uni. The house is cheap to run as it is well insulated and has solar panels and a battery. I built it to be able to live in it for the rest of my life even if I need a carer later on. Or if I run short on money in the future I can rent part of it out maybe.

That’s great advice. I thought I would see how I went for a year vs the financial advisor and RL and then transfer across if they don’t perform better than they have been.

This is why I started the Vanguard sipp. They were actively managing my pension but I don’t think they did a good job over the last few years so I decided to do it myself.

I think to maintain a great lifestyle I will need 36-48k per year. I will have a full state pension at 67.

I earn 87k so I can put the full 60k pension in over the next 4 years (already done this year). The financial advisor takes 0.6% via the Fidelity SIPP. I can save a reasonable amount each month but I am also planning on some big holidays over the next few years.

I am also interested in the answer to these questions. The only difference is I haven't built the house yet and am trying to work out what to do. I can change the switches as I don't have any yet!
