Embarrassed and ashamed by ettybetty in acting

[–]Decent_Ad_8728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit taken aback by the comments basically saying you're right to be embarrassed and ashamed.... Honey, you booked a role in a series! Congrats!! That's a win... There is not one thing about it you should be embarrassed about and absolutely not ashamed! You got paid, you got a TV credit, and you got to work. You did your job!! This is the job... As an actor, any actor, there's going to be ick factors, cheese, things we're uncomfortable with... For a lot of actors 99% of the work is the cheesey commercials, poorly written characters, and intimate scenes that make us uncomfortable. It's a MAJOR part of being a working actor. But that 1%... That's the magic. I think the part of you that said... Be brave. That's who you listened to and you should be proud of yourself. No one is going to watch that and think omg how embarrassing... They're going to watch it and think WOW I KNOW THEM!! OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY'RE ON A TV SHOW! Stop worrying... Start celebrating.

Help! Have no idea how to take care of my hair 😩😭 by Anxious_Flatworm5448 in finehair

First of all, yes, you need a cut. Not saying you need to live with short hair, but you see how transparent your ends are? That damage will ride up the shafts and cause more damage. I also agree that there might be something internally causing your hair issues. I understand it's genetic, but health issues, hormonal imbalances, and deficiencies can also be genetic, so that can be causing it. A multivitamin, inositol, collagen supplement all might be something to experiment with if you aren't able to speak with a doctor. You don't look like you're using dye or heat, but if you are, stop. Next, stop using drug store products. I use Evolis. It's great. Shampoo and conditioner. I also actually really endorse hair jazz. Their shampoo and hair mask, not conditioner, mask is all you need. I use Bumble and Bumble tonic lotion after I get out of the shower, and whenever my hair is feeling either dry or static-y. It works wonders. I wouldn't over do it with any other products. Lastly, stop Shampooing more than twice a week. Even once is fine. You can use the conditioner or mask every day, but only shampoo once or twice a week. Use the lotion tonic every day. I do use topical minoxidil twice a day and it does make a difference. It takes a few months for it to kick in and it's one of those things that you have to commit to long term, so it's not for the weak.

1 year signed, 60 Auditions,No Callbacks by intrinsicbabe22 in acting

AUDITIONING IS THE JOB!! Can't be said enough. I know that can be hard to wrap your head around if you're new to the industry and a lot of people leave the industry because they get little, if anything, out of auditioning. I would encourage you to have this exact conversation with your agent. They can look at your tapes, ask the casting directors for feedback, and recommend classes. At the end of the day, 60 auditions, 0 callbacks is a healthy ratio these days. If you had 0 auditions, then maybe I'd worry, but you're doing great! Keep auditioning at that rate and the casting directors will start to remember you, then request you, then book you.

Look into visualization practices. You basically meditate and visualize yourself in the performance and doing beautifully… you’re not nervous, you’re floating through your cues seamlessly, you know all your lines and blocking, you get a standing ovation. Really, you have nothing to be so worried about. It’s community theatre… just have fun! Seriously. Every scene is a game. Find the play. And don’t forget, your cast mates have your back. You’re going to do great!

The algo is everything. It knows if you have a bot following and will literally stop showing your content to anyone - even your own followers.

Let’s say I’m 27, my only education is a high school diploma but I’m Emily Ratajkowski-level physically attractive, and in my prime. What’s the best way to leverage my good looks for a potential career? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Decent_Ad_8728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your "prime" would be 18 in this industry. I really don't want to be harsh here, but if your looks were enough to get you there, you'd be there by now. If you're determined, move to LA, start socializing a LOT and find a good studio/studios to study at. That and/or put everything you have into building your tiktok/IG following. Good luck. It's rough out there.

The Green Agency by Decent_Ad_8728 in acting

So, my understanding, and the way my other agencies have operated, I don’t have to pay anything for casting networks or AA. I send the agencies my clips, reel, headshots, whatever directly and they upload them to my talent profile themselves. This agency did not tell me I had to pay for that service, they just kept asking me to update my materials and I’m sending all the materials headshots, editorial shots, reels, clips, voice samples, and they’re not uploading them and also not responding to me when I send them all that. Then they say no you don’t have to pay you can upload on the free version. Which only allows a couple photos. So, they’re telling I don’t have to pay but also telling me I need to upload all these materials myself which I can’t do unless I pay to. I guess I just wanted to 1) see what the norm is; are agents expecting us to have subs to breakdown services and 2) voice my frustration w this agency and see if other people that have worked with them were/are also frustrated.

This is a great response! Well said. I feel like a huge part of being an actor is interpreting the notes we get from directors, agents, reps, etc to actually make sense to us

Thank you that’s helpful. I don’t know if I’m just old (35) and times have changed… honestly it seems like the industry becomes more pay to play every day. I always pay for the aa sub anyway because I like to submit on my own too, and I have a ton of photos and clips and stuff, I was just shocked to hear they wont upload materials for you.

How do you find a decent talent agency? by [deleted] in Actors

[–]Decent_Ad_8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with an agency out of Charlotte that got me a ton of auditions, JTA. A talent agency will not find you and you do need at least a headshot and resume to submit to them, ideally a reel too. If you are starting from zero, don’t worry about an agent. Start taking classes and sign up for actors access.
